went out this morning to let out the birds. It is about 5 below zero F here this morning. Had to grab the .22 quickly and shoot a weasel. Still shaking from the cold and adrenalin rush. In to warm up for a few and check on everyone.

a pic for those of you who still think a hoop coop will keep your chickens safe. This little guy can squeeze thru a tiny hole 1 inch or less.And this is a BIG weasel. Note the perfect shot

AXOA I am head predator around here

. One of our cats usually takes care of weasels for me. I just beat him to this one.

Sigh. I want YOUR CAT (does he stay outside all the time?)

Please tell me these critters are only around water.

no William is indoor outdoor. I never even had a weasel around until 2 years ago. If there is one thing I have learned chicken keeping is this. Predators move in to be near your chickens. Then they must die...or your chickens will

Morning all..
I am still hatching chicks..sheesh my bator must be on the fritz. I have hatched out 6 of my own with 1 egg left. I have finally hatched out one of the shipped eggs. No more pips. I have one internal pip on the shipped eggs. I am pretty sure this bator killed the rest of them. My temps must of been pretty low.

killed it 7:30 this morning. Forget everything you ever read about "night time predators". 99% of it is wrong.

How many shipped eggs were there altogether?

I am wondering if the shipped eggs may have gotten more rough of a treatment in the mail due to the larger amount of parcels being shipped during the holiday rush. I was wondering that on the eggs I got. Both my parents were post office people and I know first hand that the volume alone makes po workers a little more in a rush and things aren't handled with quite the same care as during less busy times.

Just a thought.
