The nest box

I have 4 pullets that started laying 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I have 2 nest boxes, 1 with a golf ball and one with a brown egg shaped/sized rock.
On Thursday I got 3 eggs. 2 were in the nest box with the golf ball and one was on the floor near the hanging feeder. Yesterday I got one egg, in the nest box. Today I again got 3 eggs and again, 2 with the golf ball and one on the floor near the feeder.
Do I need another nest or two or do I need more golf balls?

Sherry, the pullets can really make one laugh at times with the things they choose to do. With only 4 pullets, 2 nests is plenty. We have hens that will fight to get into the same nest, time after time even though their are plenty of empty ones. Then all of a sudden they decide a different one is the favorite and fight over that one. Just to hard to understand sometimes. Then I have a hen raised by a mother hen of our that will lay her egg in the corner of the coop no matter what I do to try to change her ways. So I simply check her corner every day and collect her egg and allow her to be a happy hen. I think chickens are the most fun and yet amazing at the same time.

We have one hen that comes down to to the house every day for her piece of cheese singles. In the summer with the back door open she just walks in and looks at the fridge till we give her a slice, then she thanks us and off with the rest of the flock she goes.... sorry to ramble.

I put nest boxes in my barn but my hens dont want to lay where i want them to LOL, My hens made them a little burrow in the dirt in the dark side of my barn,gatherd up a bunch of hay and just started laying thier eggs there..It doesnt bother me,as long as they lay thier and only there.so i dont step on an egg when i walk in.So far i get three eggs from that little burrow everyday! Im happy LOL
