The Never Ending Hatching thread! For those of us that hatch all year long!

I have been on a quest to fill my incubator completely, I haven't managed it yet, but I will keep trying. Sizzles on lockdown right now, with about 120 various eggs here there and everywhere elsewhere in it.

I am really sorry to hear about this, but a lot of folks on here through the years have had similar things happen and still got decent hatch rates: So have hope. At this stage, I usually try to both candle and do a float test. A lot of times I won't see any movement when candling, but will see the movement when I do the float test or vice-versa. So, I have gotten in the habit of doing both if on any suspect eggs.

I am waiting on some Blue and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and Beltsville turkey eggs that are supposed to hatch today: I have one Ameraucana and one turkey egg pipped externally, so can't open the incubator to check the rest (10 went into lock-down)

Good luck Sweetlil....fingers are crossed

and sending out good hatching vibes to you.

I am not going to mess with the eggs anymore. Let them either hatch or not hatch. They were due tomorrow, but i'm thinking with the incubator coming unplugged they'll take an extra day at least if they will hatch. I'm hoping to get more then one chick out of this. there are only 3 eggs, was hoping for a 100% hatch.

I think i need a second incubator to use as a hatcher. That way I could keep the incubator going just added eggs whenever I can get them and date those eggs for when they go to lock down. It would be cool to be able to have eggs hatching every week. I think i'm an addict.

That's the way I do it. I have two incubators and one hatcher. I set once a week and hatch once a week usually.
Sorry about your bator coming unplugged. Once my dog pulled mine off of the sewing machine with 42 eggs on day 19. It was terrible. The eggs literally crashed to the floor. I think only six eggs didn't break.
I don't really mess with mine anymore either. Sometimes I don't even candle till day 18. Then on day 21 the ones that don't hatch are tossed out.
LOL We are on a site called Back Yard Chickens and we are subscribed to a thread called The Never Ending Hatching thread. We're addicted!

I wont toss eggs on day 21. I've had several healthy chicks hatch on day 25. Some are just slower growing in the shell or scared of the outside world LOL.

after this hatch i'm going to take a break from it for a while we got a notice that next month they will be doing construction.

I just took my Brinsea Mini Advanced and my Hobavator with 24 Silkie and Serama eggs to my grand-daughters 1st. grade class so they could watch them hatch. I brought along a Serama pair, my RIR hen and one of my Silkie hens to show them where the eggs come from. It was such a great experience for them and me. I will be going back next week to show them all about candling. After they hatch, fingers crossed, I am going to sell the chicks and give the $ to the class.

That's awesome! I've been wanting to do that. And maybe take some newborn chicks to a nursing home. That's cool you are giving the money you get from the chicks to the class. Our schools need more people like you! THANKS!!

Cool! I know the kids love watching the eggs and waiting for them hatch. It is also great that you had a good plan for the chicks once they hatch. I am sure the teacher appreciates the money from the sale as well! Great job.

Every spring I give a few dozen eggs a group of kindergarten teachers in New Orleans who hatch in their classrooms. A couple weeks before they set the eggs, they send fliers and reservation forms home with the children. The chicks are given to the people who ask for them (they are always sure to set several more eggs than requested chicks to make sure everyone gets one). The day the chicks go home, the parents pick the kids up and are given a small handbook on proper care and nutrition, etc. Any spare chicks are given to any staff or teachers that would like to have them. New Orleans is really big on back yard flocks and I even know some people that live in apartments that have some.

The best thing is that the first year I supplied eggs, the teachers had so many questions about the eggs "parents" that they requested pictures of my flock. So, I sent the kids pictures of the roosters and hens who were the mommy and daddy of their eggs: They loved it and I was told they named some of my chickens....lol.

Nice to find this thread! I am planning to hatch as long as eggs are available. With a pause for the first month of our new babies arrival, of course!

I currently have 32 eggs in my Farm Innovators Pro. Love this incubator! Soo easy to use!
