our new coop is almost done
. Our ladies are almost feathered out and will be moving in soon. We have one barred rock, one red star, a gold laced wyandotte, a silver laced wyandotte ( all pullets) and 3 straight run silkies ( we are only going to keep future hens - the guys will have to go
)
the run is 5x12 and the coop 4x4. The coop has two opening roof panels ( can be tilted in summer and open for cleaning), outside nest boxes and a side door that also works as a window in summer- the screen is on hinges and opens to be able to push out litter ).
The only flaw is the actual chicken door - it will need some sort of drawbridge mechanism because it is impossible to close the door from the outside of the run
( short of climbing in the coop every night
) - it will get a little chain I guess
I don't think we have to worry about too many predators where we live - mostly birds of prey...
Any suggestions, comments advise ?
