I am thinking of making this space a segregation area for a broody, new chicks, or what not... framed out with hardware cloth. Thoughts? It's 24 inches deep and 6ft wide.

I'm planning on something like that in the Chicken Palace. I forget which coop page I saw it in, but it was a little space under a poop board with a ground nest and wire to make a broody hutch.

Yes ma'am! I can't remember where I saw it either, but I think it would be a great use of the space. I'm keeping my figures crossed for a broody, lol

I'm doing something like that too. The brooder/growout pen is going to run down the side of the coop. Part of it will be under the poop board, part will be under the nest boxes. That way, I can fence it off with hardware cloth and give the littles their own exit to their part of the run with the pop door.

I leave the people door open during the day, and the big birds can use that for their part of the run.

I have about half of it done now. I'll post pictures when I get the other part in. My plan is to remove the hardware cloth when integration is complete, and just leave the rest there for the next time... maybe next spring?
