Fertility has been confirmed and despite incubator issues, they are still growing strong.

The girls are laying well so far this week, so before the weather throws them into a tizzy again, here goes...

Is there anyone here that likes to hatch something out-of-the-ordinary?

So.... I have a grow-out pen that I have been thinking about breaking into breeding/laying pens now that they are laying. Actually, 2 of the pullets were supposed to be re-homed already, but due to predator issues, I still have them. I am not ready to hatch from them yet, so wasn't really thinking about the combination in there... until a couple of weeks ago, that is. I keep telling myself "I do not need another project

... I do NOT need another project

... I DO NOT NEED another project

... But, but....

... they would be sex-links, after all...

and some could be really cool!

What I have: This guy - a Mocha (some call it mauve, but I think mocha is more accurate) cockerel that may carry the blue egg gene to produce green eggs. He looks darker in the picture than he actually is.

In with him are 3 black pullets and a blue pullet. At least 3 of them are laying green eggs, the other may be green or brown. From this match you could hatch chocolate, mocha and/or latte (chocolate splash) pullets and BBS/split-to-chocolate cockerels. I know, cool, but not mind-blowing.

But wait, there's more...

In with him also are 2 pure Svarthöna pullets!

From this match up you could hatch chocolate and mocha FIBRO pullets

that could lay green eggs (but certainly not guaranteed), as well as black and blue split-to-chocolate FIBRO cockerels. (Google "Swedish Blue Hens" for pics) I have hatched a chocolate Fibro pullet before and she was gorgeous. Let me see if I have a picture...

She is the one in front. Everything that is black on a Svarthöna is chocolate on her. I wasn't going to process her to find out, but I am wondering if her meat would be chocolate, too.

I am not sure exactly what a mocha fibro would look like, but I can imagine!

Oh, did I forget to mention that any of my Svarthönas may carry the woolly (silky) gene? I can't guarantee that the two in the above pen do, so if that is of interest to you, I will also add some eggs from my purebred Svarthöna pen with 5 standard feathered pullets (may be carrying woolly) covered by 2 Woolly cockerels. Chances are good you will hatch a woolly, but if not, all chicks will carry woolly.

I will include up to 18 eggs (the most I feel comfortable shipping in one box) depending on what is laid starting with today's and ending with what is laid on Friday. I will send the freshest and if there are more than 18, the winner may pick from what was laid. I will try to update daily the number of eggs in the auction:

Tuesday's clutch - 2 Chocolate Sexlinks (green eggs), 2 Chocolate Sexlink/Fibro, 2 pure Svarthöna - 6 total
Wednesday's clutch:
Thursday's clutch:
Friday's clutch:

So, did I pique anybody's interest?

Auction starts now and ends at 12:00pm EST (noon) Friday, February 3rd. Payment via PayPal is due no later than 10:00pm on Friday, Feb. 3rd and eggs will be shipped Saturday morning. At auction's end, the winner should PM me the shipping information and a PayPal address to send the invoice to. (An invoice listing what was purchased is needed for insurance purposes.) Bids up to 12:00:59 Friday, February 3, will be accepted; those placed at 12:01:00 or after will not. Local pick-up in NKY can be arranged. Shipping is a flat rate of $20. I will not write anything on the box unless specifically requested. Shipping is by USPS Priority 2 or 3 day depending on where you live. Express shipping is available at an additional cost. The USPS's "Special Handling" service is available at an additional charge of $10.35. Each egg is wrapped in bubble wrap, burrito style and snuggled in shredded paper and then double boxed. I box the eggs the best I can to ensure that they reach you in hatchable condition, but sometimes, in spite of all my hard work, the post office manages to scramble the eggs so that none of them hatch. I have no control over that and can not guarantee that any of these eggs will hatch, so please bid accordingly. Local pick-up in Northern KY can be arranged. Please read all auctions thoroughly so you know what you are bidding on.

Let's start the bidding at $5, bids in increments of $1.
