So we had to drive to Omaha to get these girls and they are doing great. They were a 4h project raised from chicks so I think that's why they are so easy to handle. I am not disappointed, my wife adores them. We will keep them in here for a few weeks before free ranging them. I need to get my dog use to them so she can attempt to ward off predators. We have a fox that frequents my property and pond. First day out, they put themselves back inside and roosted, I think the transition will be easy.

Thank you all. I scoured this site and others, reading different approaches to introducing new hens to their new home. Like, how long to leave inside coop before turning out to the run, feeding/watering, etc with varying responses. So we decided to use a little of what we read ad just experiment, so far they are easy keepers. I did notice the australorps were more aware of their surroundings, hopefully that will serve them while free ranging.
