I have to say, I received eggs from mnhomestead and they were impeccably well packed and we'll see how fertility goes soon (today is just day 3)

the other eggs I received yesterday, I have to say the packing was... disappointing.

PLEASE, if you are going to ship eggs, at least research the best ways to ship them? this is NOT the recommended way to ship eggs. these had nothing more than layers of newspaper and grocery bags for cushioning and more tape than padding on the eggs themselves. of 13 eggs, 7 had destroyed air cells and when cracked open were scrambled entirely. one was so stuck to the tape pieces of shell peeled off with the tape and the others have disrupted air cells, going over more than half the shell surface in a couple cases.

I won't name names, but have already messaged them privately.

and my own apologies to one person I shipped eggs to. I ALWAYS wrap eggs in bubble wrap, packed in a small box with packing peanuts then pack that box in a larger one, again with peanuts to cushion. somehow though, I forgot the peanuts inside the egg box and that shipment was lost. replacements are in progress though, once I get more materials...

Just a reminder to everyone that is shipping eggs priority. USPS will insure up to $50 with no additional cost. Just make sure you click the insurance button and go to the USPS option and put in a loss amount. The post office will make you furnish documents as to value if you file a claim so put in a good estimate of loss value. They will cover eggs if you can prove the eggs were well packed and marked as hatching eggs on the box. They will even cover air cell damage if you can prove the damage was caused by their mis-handling.

In the case of the eggs in the picture they likely would not cover as the packing method was not good enough to prevent the breakage of fragile items and they require pictures of packing material, box, label, and damaged items.

Speaking of.... I have my very 1st shipping eggs experience coming up. I've been purchasing materials, but I cannot find packing peanuts. I was wondering where I should be looking. I tried shipping material sections of all the stores, including my very small walmart, & even went to the post office and asked. :/

I use shredded paper (free) and pack very tight. I wrap each egg in bubble wrap and then tape several together in 4's or 3's (depends on how many eggs I am shipping). I pack the eggs and then stuff more shreds around them. (Don't use newspaper it's too flimsy...I use white copy paper type shreds, old mail, etc...it's thickers and sturdy. I mark the eggs with the marker so they ship pointy side down...minimal movement if any. So far this method has worked well.
