So I have been waiting impatiently for my girls to start brooding, I guess the first nest boxes I built were too small. I upgraded them last weekend.

The boxes are 2x2 feet and the roof is 26"x36" on each. I moved all their eggs to the new boxes last Sunday. All the nests now look like this, so I am hoping for lots of poults soon.

I can't confirm 100% yet but I do believe a hen actually spent the night in a box last night. If she is still sitting when I get home from work then I will have my first broody!

Very nice! My husband built my nesting boxes. I have chickens. Well, he built them the same sizes as yours, only they're inside my hen house. So they're really big for chickens. haha Anyhow, I had a pair of turkeys, and since the boxes were so huge, the turkey hen layed her eggs right in with the chicken eggs. I got a kick out of that.

Take care and good luck! Hope you get lots of poults!

Well she may be beautiful, but she was greedy and/or a little confused. She kept switching nests and killed off the first batch of eggs she was setting on.

She is now in momma jail. Setting on 15+ eggs.

So now we are off for round two! Hopefully she will do better this time. (I added a feeder and water after this picture was taken)
