The new pellets look....different?

The pellets were full of pests so I dried them in the sun yet the pests did not die. So i went to the pet store and brought a new packet but it looks a bit different and also has a strong pellet smell. it's scattered with black and white and is more darker/bigger. Is it mouldy/old or am I overthinking this?

Look at the manufactured date on the tag. Otherwise, it appears normal.

ok thanks. no manufactured/expiry date. There never has been. I'm assuming its new because the shop is close to a feed mill factory.

If you are in the US, by law there must be a manufacturing date. It's usually on the bottom seam. Stacked on a shelf, the numbers are easiest to track. It will be a cryptic series of numbers that include a product id# and maybe a barcode.
Feed looks normal to me. If in doubt, use the sniff test.
