Wow, what a story. Brought tears to my eyes.

Before we found out she was my bonus sons coach, she was my oldest son's teachers aid. So, I've seen her interact with the kiddos with special needs and the kids on the team - she's compassionate, understanding, encouraging but firm. Kids need that in a role model.

We finally got some rain We had 2 rains in 24 hours…about 1-3/4”. I am so grateful.

The smoke is better today.

Still, incubation will not start which is a good thing. It is not good for eggs to start and stop incubation too many times. It will work n the first week but after that, they would die.

The smoke traveled east. I wonder how it's doing there.

It's an absolutely awful day here. It's currently only 43F outside and rainy. But our chicks are hatching. I was woken up at 2.45am by the first one announcing its arrival. So far 5 have hatched but one is still drying off in the incubator. This is the best photo I could get seeing as it's such a gloomy day.

Thank you Mad, we had a great weekend with the boys. June is the kitten's name. She is fitting in with the petpets pretty well. She is still a little wary of the dogs, but she no longer runs from them.

She put them on a roost for the first time last night. It was quite a ruckus; she wanted them to have the entire roost, not just one bar. The other hens were not interested in giving over their space. She finally gave in and let her family roost with the dark brahma girls.

Congratulations Jae! They are beautiful. I hope you are blessed with a good ratio of pullets to cockrels!

Good morning Sue, Deb, DMC, Mad, Jae, Ron, Sour, Mark, and Bob! I hope I didn't miss anyone.
I opened the back door earlier to let the cat in, it feels like a steam shower. We had the most beautiful weekend, with 80s temperatures, but we are back under a heat advisory now, until Tuesday. Temps high 90s and high humidity.
The chickens are handling it pretty well so far. The hubby is too. He is working on clearing an area, for a wading pond.

Mad, Boo cat is enjoying having another cat to wrestle with. I had no idea that I was a cat person! (Or that a chicken lady lived inside me.. maybe even that proverbial, crazy chicken lady.)

Having 2 (or in my case 3) cats together is fun...they keep each other entertained, and me too!
