The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning everyone :)
Good morning Mad
Good morning DMC 😊 enjoy your day and tree 😉

Good morning IM 😊 have a wonderful day

Good morning Mad 😊
Hi Sue
Good morning, All. :frow
Good morning Sour
Thanks IM:hugsIt’s a Balsam Hill tree. You see them on all the Hallmark movies. I’ve drooled for years over them. When I took it out of the box in July I thought oh crap, this needs to go back, it’s not worth the money. With lights on it looks more like a real tree.

Hi Mad!

Hi Sue, I will😊

Hi Sour!
I’ll go have a look! Ours is pre lit with the tiny LEDs so all we have to erect it and decorate.
Good (late) morning y'all!

What a beautiful family!

Sue, I am so sorry. God bless you and yours.

Good morning, DMC.

Good morning, Debby. I'm a Stove Top Stuffing kinda girl. (Translation: hates to cook)
Our girls are bringing most of the main course. Memaw (mil) and I, are making pinto beans, cornbread, yeast rolls, and Mac n cheese, plus deserts. Chocolate cake, pecan cobbler, pumpkin pie, and mincemeat pie (Not my choice; the name just makes it unappealing to me.) Memaw has always been the ace cook, but she is forgetful now, thus my help.

Good morning, IM.

Photos please!

Good morning, Bob.

Hi Janie
Good morning Bob :frow

Hi IM! Gotta keep the little dudes excited about Christmas!

We've been using a fake tree for several years now, the live ones got too costly. I hope we'll get our tree up right after Thanksgiving so DH can help with it.

You just enjoy that tree DMC (once you get it fluffed :D )!

Good morning Mad, hope you're enjoying your weekend!
The cost is what finally did it for us. Plus Igor has the back and knees issues now so this should be easier in the long run. I hope you get yours up next weekend!
Guess I'm rushing the season a bit too, I got my gingerbread house done. It's not the best one I've ever done but it will do for this year.

My favorite part of this one is the tiny gingerbread men candies around the bottom of the house. :)
It’s adorable! Good job Debby

Fake trees are definitely easier. I miss the smell of a real one (and spray smelly stuff is yuck!) but the fake one doesn't shed needles or need watering.

I bet the kiddos get excited about putting up the tree! Are they old enough to pretty much do it all themselves?

This is what it looked like right out of the box when it came in July…hence the fluffing 🤣

That looks like a nice fake tree! Next we gotta see the decoration :D
Charlie Brown Christmas trees are my favorite - my mom and I did that for a few years. We'd go to a tree lot and ask for the ugliest tree, and usually got a fat discount.

That's awesome Debby!! Did you make the gingerbread from scratch or did you find one from a box?

I have a wax melter thing my mom gave me eons ago. There’s one brand of wax cubes that smells almost like a real tree so I’m using those this year. I agree cleaning up after a real tree is a pain! I knew a lady years ago that put her fake tree on a wooden platform with wheels. She decorated it and stored it assembled in her garage. She used one of those tree disposal bags to cover it. All she had to do was wheel it in and plug it in.

Having a nice weekend. Bonus Son had a roller derby game in Carson City, NV yesterday. It was a beautiful 3hr drive.

One of the adult players from the adult team was being super aggressive the whole time, hitting the players in the face (which is not allowed) and other things. He was a tall guy too so some of our players couldn't get passed him but the coach from our team jammed through him, knocking him down and you can see her point and laugh in the beginning of the video. It was intense but our Lockeford Liberators played fair AND still won 💪

We stayed in a hotel/casino last night, then had a coupon for breakfast this morning... which we didn't have to pay AND it was a nice dining experience for FREE :D
Going to head home in about an hour.

DMC, that's big tree! It's going to look beautiful with all your decorations on it!

About the gingerbread houses...I start with a kit. TSC has the best ones I've found so far (the house I did this year was a kit from Michael's and not as large or as nice). My number 1 tip for assembling, use a glue gun! Forget trying to stick walls and roof together with Royal icing, it takes too long to set up and isn't as strong. The decorations are all put on with the icing and the kits never have much extra of that.

These are the 2 previous g-bread houses I've made. The first when we lived in FL and the 2nd when I was living in the company house:
