Pardon my ignorance but I would think single digit temps, plus those well below 0Ā°F, would be so common in your area that people wouldn't need to be warned. Sounds like a warning that should go out for Texas where single digit highs would be quite rare.
Youād be surprised at how many winters town and city crews are out in the sub-zero temperatures fixing broken water mains and helping panicked homeowners, simply because of the āit wonāt happen to meā mentality. Iāve never heard of such alerts here before either, but much of the state (especially those of us up in the northern part) has had such a mild winter weāve become a bit complacent. Budgets are drying up all over Wyoming because of the loss of energy revenues, so I suppose issuing an alert is a proactive way of heading potential problems. Paging overtime when a little common sense could have prevented calling out the town crews in the first place makes sense to me. Maybe itās my years of being on Planning and Zoning and on Town Council that makes me think of that aspect.
It's kind of cool though.
