I've been bitten by a black widow. It was in my kitchen sink. It got me on the end of a finger. I thought it was a junebug at first, but then I felt a sharp pain through my hand and up to my elbow. I put the spider in a jar and took it to the ER with me. I have the tiniest of scars.
My mother had a huge scar, on her knee, where a brown recluse bit her. It happened while she and her sisters were canning tomatoes.
She was the first in her family to get a spider bite. (Quite the accomplishment.)
Her mom, one sister, and one brother were all rattle snake victims at one time or another.
One of my cousins died of an untreated brown recluse bite, as did a nurse, and an aid that I worked with. The cousin and the aid, both left behind several minor children.
Spider bites are nothing to mess around with.
Be careful IM!
