The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thanks, Janie. Everyone has a story…things they’ve gone or are going through. I’m no different. Every year I swear that I’m just not going to dwell on it…..and every year I blow that resolution out of the water. But this too shall pass, right? I have so many great and wonderful things to love about my life that I should focus on, and I usually do. But I absolutely hate June. Lost my dad, my beloved Gramma Grace, my sister Linda, and my grandson Austin all in June.
I understand. My mother lost twin baby girls in November. They only lived a few minutes after birth. She didn't get to attend the funeral, and she said that made it harder for her. It was always the worst month for our family. She was very depressed when November rolled around.
December was like a light switch flipping. I think it helped her to decorate and shop for Christmas, and concentrate on myself and my brothers. My dad was very indulgent with the decor and shopping.
I was born 16 months after the twins died. She named me "Jayne" because it meant gift from God. Not sure I lived up to that expectation, but I adored my mother. She was such a wonderful lady and she was a great influence on so many people.
I know Linda and Austin had to have felt that way about you also, because you are a wonderful lady and very influential also. They were so lucky to have you in their lives.

One day at a time IM! Crops are in (as much as could be done). We are waiting on an insurance adjuster. They are supposed to be coming June 18th for the first storm…5 weeks after the fact. I hope they can take care of everything so a second adjuster doesn’t come out for the 2nd storm. I can’t wait until it’s all behind us. Thanks for asking!
How are things with you?
I imagine it’s really hard waiting on the insurance co. A lot of them are hiring outside adjusters from what I’ve heard. I hope you can get it resolved with one visit.

Hanging in there, it’s already hot outside. Just maintenance in the garden and lots of fingers crossed that my fruit trees live through the summer!

Thanks IM!
I am excited for the house to get done. We have a big sheet of plastic nailed over the garage. The rest of the roof is just patched with shingles that flew off. Since we have to reshingle the roof we are going to add a Gabled roof over our deck so we can actually use it. We are taking out the existing deck and putting in cement. We will be able to walk out the door right onto the cement patio. Rafters for this project won’t be here until at least August(I hope they are on time) so I hope it gets done this year. The guy who is doing our roofing/siding also does cement which is great.

Do you have to water alot? I can only imagine your heat. The weather has been pretty nice here since the storm. We have about 5 days of 80’s coming up. The central air will probably go on tomorrow.

Got through yesterday. Now I have the 24th to dread. Of all the losses I’ve gone through, none have hit me as hard as losing Linda and losing my grandson Austin.
You too? Death seems to be surrounding me lately. I'm the oldest sibling, I'm supposed to go first. I'm the younger spouse, I'm supposed to go first. I lost my Lisa..baby sister in 2020, my husband in 2021, and another sister this year in January. Who's anniversary was yours yesterday??

Nice changes to your house, can’t wait to see some picks!

There are a few things I’m watering daily, walking onions and bananas, otherwise every few days for some things. My goal is to get a hose timer and a few soaker hoses to automate some of the watering. The fruit trees were only planted a few weeks ago and have a thick layer of mulch around them, but they haven’t really had a chance to recover from transplant and now it’s hot as hades out there. Plus side is we have more humidity than we did last year, the bucket under the drain pipe for the HVAC is already full. Hope we have a good monsoon this year!
