The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Still raining. The ponds are overflowing, and water is running over the dam.
They are rescuing people from homes that are flooding in Balch Springs, near Dallas. A few weeks ago they had a fire there, because it was so dry that a mower caused sparks.
No happy medium with this weather.
You’re right Janie. How are you and yours doing though? Everyone still above water?

And all I got was a two minute sprinkle. Guess I should be grateful for not being washed away. I'll just keep on not having to mow my grass. I'd be afraid to anyway.
We are getting your rain over this way! I'll try and send you a little!

Barely. I moved the baby chicks to a higher area in the coop just in case. They are in an xl dog kennel right now. They still have the mhp, because I hatched a single in the incubator a couple of days ago. (1st time mama left her 3 eggs during a thunder storm at week two, so I put them in the brinsea & only one hatched.)
I just dug a trench in front of the big coop, to divert water away & one by the back porch. Water was over our slab and coming in the French doors. Of course, no one here has flood insurance.
Our girls in Plano are OK, but they work in Dallas. They didn't have to go in this morning. Thank goodness.

I hope the trenches work and you don’t get more water in the house. Do you have some sand bags or something to help? Are your girls in a low risk area? Flood insurance is tough I know. Plus having to pay the premium in full at renewal can be hard in some cases since it’s not particularly cheap a lot of the time.

The trenches did the trick. The rain stopped about 30 minutes ago. It looks like it may rain a little more tonight per the weather report. We've never worried about flood insurance. It doesn't flood here as a rule. I'm sure people in Dallas didn't think they'd need it.

Holy smokes Janie!

Neither did the people near Houston until Harvey sat on them. They would have been fine except over the years they have built on all the areas that would have carried the rain water to the sea.

Glad you only suffered a little in house flooding, that can be a huge problem to fix

Wow!

Hi Debby!
I froze 46 bags already. I’m thinking I’ll get about another 30. Who knows what crops will look like nice year. I think we’re going to buy another freezer next week as we have a cow coming this fall and part of a pig. I am running out of room.

Hi Sour! I’m glad you’re getting rain.

Hi Mark! Hubby husks, I cut it off and cook it.

Hi Bob, you also!

It sounds like another freezer is needed for sure! Nice that the corn is a project that you & DH do together...that would be a ton of work to do alone.

You really are getting it all at once! Glad the trenches worked and everyone is ok.

I feel lucky that we only had a little water. No damage thus far. We lost another tree. A big one on the other side of the pond. Amazingly enough our utilities are still on 🤞and we have internet!
I watched a little of the Dallas & Fort Worth news. It came on quick and then receded. Plenty of damage there.
