The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

You can come visit AZ, we’re headed up to 90 for a few days
We have a few days of 80's here even in Dec-Feb. Not many but enough to thaw out. One of my projects is to build another hoop house as a green house that doesn't need heat. Solar heat will be enough to grow squash and tomatoes in the winter. I will put electric to it in the event we have a very hard freeze. There is also the option of one of those propane space heaters. I think that would be a good place to keep a broody hen with her eggs away from those that would want to mess with her while she is taking care of business.

That sounds like a great project...a homegrown tomato in the middle of winter would be so tasty!

We are fortunate in having an IGA store that gets tomatoes year round that are almost always nearly as good as picking one out of your garden. Sometimes maybe better. They must be contracted with a grower nearby that can produce for them in volume that they need. These are big slicers. Large beefsteak tomatoes with good flavor and don't have that picked green taste to them. Last week they were 99¢ a lb. Normally they are a standard $1.99 a lb. Bacon is on sale often and we stock up and freeze a few lbs if the quality is good. Now I've made myself want a BLT...

A belated good morning to everyone. I didn't get to sleep until early this morning and I did sleep well. By the time I came dragging in here the frost was gone. Having a coffee to get brave enough to venture out.
Good afternoon!
Good morning folks! that white stuff is here on the ground.
Good afternoon, Mark. Enjoy the snow!

Good afternoon. Hit the ground running, but running behind today. Gotta get busy with all my nothingness. Now where's my rock Sisyphus? Gonna be a long day.

Oh oh, you might find @sourland knocking on your door for a BLT lunch!

I've seen tomato fields along the FL/GA/AL state lines. And then this time of year Ruskin tomatoes should be coming in from the Tampa Bay area of FL. We used to could go there and pick a 5 gallon bucket of good tasting vine ripe tomatoes to can for $1. They might be $2 now as the season winds down. There's an area there with good soil for tomatoes.
