I'm not sure if I've ever lived near any (or maybe did and just didn't know what they were).
Mocking birds were nearly wiped out in the late 1800s. They were used as pets!

They go through a series of verses in their song, 4 or 5 of them. They imitate other bird songs and sounds. The one here has a verse that sounds like a car alarm!

The spring song from the same bird has a verse that sounded like baby chicks in distress. The spring song is usually louder too.

If you here repeated bird songs that go in order and then repeat, you have a mocking bird nearby.

Hi Ron, they sound interesting. Maybe we have them and I've just never heard them.

We have them here. They sometimes whistle at my dog and talk back to me when I imitate them. I enjoy it. They are pretty good sized songbirds also. Our's are around the size of a bluejay.
