The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thanks everyone. The shoulder has been a real witch to deal with. In a sling for over a week. Should have been longer but what the docs don't know won't hurt me. Unable to use the injured arm at all for over a month. This past three days I've finally begun to see an improvement and it's been over 7 weeks since I hurt it.

In the mean time we have been busy harvesting wood....trust me, not easy to do one handed and especially since I hurt the right shoulder.

I did hatch 14 chicks before the injury. This is my last hatch. Starting to see poor hatch results and a few birth defects so my flock is officially retired due to age and inbreeding. I lost 20 birds to something weird. Not sure if it was something mice dragged in or me having to bring out heavy guns to get a bad infestation under control and the birds ate contaminated mice. The problem got so bad that the mice were chewing feathers off of my birds so I had to do something drastic. I'll probably never know but the die off stopped after I got the mouse problem under control. It mainly affected hens that would be fine in the morning but dead by night so I'm suspecting toxin was involved. I felt horrible about it but like my husband said. My hands were tied. I had to get rid of the mice.

So my flock is smaller but doing well. The youngest babies are 8 weeks old now. All bantams. They are going to get old with me....well. Older with me some of them. LOL.

Happy birthday to everyone out there celebrating!

Happy Birthday @microchick! Sorry about the injury and mice but it sounds like things are starting to turn a corner. Take care!

That is quite an update!

Shoulder injuries can be brutal and rats are a real nuisance. Hopefully they will be less of a problem for you now.
