The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning folks :frow

N F C good news about the bed, but the 28[SUP]th[/SUP] seems a long time to wait, especially seen as they stuffed up.  Anyways, hopefully a happy ending very soon.

Wow, I missed the whole golf course thing .. they shot at your hubby?!

Did the sad news from Melbourne reach your shores?  Idiot out on parole for known violence decided to use his car as a weapon in a pedestrian mall .. many injured and some on the critical list.  Current death toll of 5 including a child .. SOB was shot in the arm, shame they missed ;)  and had he not been out on parole? …. Putting soap box away :duc

sourland happy birthday to your grand daughter and congratulations on getting to be a proud grand dad.

Sorry, I was AWOL for a couple of days, knee was giving me all kinds of grief.  Yesterday a walk from having it elevated on the bed to sitting outside to watch the girls while hubby went to get a hair cut had me in tears by the time I got to the front door.

Anyways, long story short .. pain had become pain, swelling and heat so had to call in a doctor.  He suspected septic joint and off to hospital I had to go .. I was fighting and kicking that one! Well, just fighting, no kicking ;)

All the way there I was telling hubby I was not staying!  Luckily septic joint was ruled out and I came home with a diagnosis of prepatellar bursitis [house-maid knee] and my new fashion accessory, a walking stick which I took great delight in waving at my son LOL :old

Still in all kinds of pain but at least now I know what it is and how to manage it.  The x-ray showed that my knee has "had a hard life / good workout".

Any tips/experience with medication to help with management/prevention .. fish oil? Glucosamine with sulfate?  etc

Hi Teila...glad you went in for your knee. Did you ever try soaking in a tub with epsom salt. It did help mine, I put a couple cups in a couple different times. I assume ibuprofen is the best for inflammation. I doubt anything will be a quick cure. Good luck! Haven't watched any news so hadn't heard about Melbourne, sad news!

I got bursitis in my hip. Rest and not doing things to irritate it is the best thing. Mine is just calming down since I re-injured it last June. You can also get their shots in the joint.

I have always used plain old ibuprofen, have basically lived on it for decades. All that other stuff doesn't really work, it didn't for me. Just have to learn to take things easier and not overdo it.

Being crippled makes you inventive too. I use my husband's barbecue tongs to get stuff off high shelves, what he doesn't know won't hurt him right?

I take it you haven't slowed down yet

What he doesn't know won't hurt him either!

Old Hen - barbeque tongs can be used in a wide variety of ways. You can bet your Hubby has been misusing your silverware - like knives as impromptu screw drivers, or to pry up paint can lids. My father used to grab anything that was handy, precious(to my mom) objects were his tool of choice.

:lau I do hide things that are important to me.

No, it is the Princess who does that sort of thing with my good knives.

Thank you oldhenlikesdogs I did try Nurofen [Ibuprofen] the day before calling the doctor but I confess I only took two and as they did not help, did not take any more. However, at the hospital they gave me Nurofen and Panadol and that did seem to help so I will give them another try.

DMC yeah, I did try the Epsom salts also, twice. It was really nice soaking in the cold bath on a hot day but getting out was tricky! Lol

I too am a lost cause when it comes to resting .. I am soon off to start the housework, complete with by new BFF Mr Walking Stick

I have lost track of how much I have told you guys n' gals about our plans to move .. but, hubby has scored an interview for a job up in FNQ [Far North Queensland, 1,300kms North of our current location] where we are hoping to move to be closer to his father and being a seaside coastal village, a more relaxing lifestyle. He flies out tomorrow, has an interview Tuesday and then flies back Wednesday. They did give the option to interview in person or via Skype but we figured in person would give a good impression. Wish us luck!

I use a BBQ tong to get small items out of the bottom of my washer as it's deep and I'm short. I don't think it's ever been used on the grill but it's used on clean clothes if that ever happens

I hadn't though of using it for that, great idea. Though it does remind me of the episode where Kramer used Jerry spatula for scratching his back for any other Seinfeld fans out there.
