The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I've got a bit of sad news. Our little Piper died this morning. S/he was 3 and a half weeks old. I fed him/her this morning like normal, then I just happened to check on them about a couple of hours later and poor little Piper was dead with blood coming out of his/her mouth. It was still fresh so it had only just happened.

This is the last photo I took of him/her a couple of days ago. Such a pretty, sweet birdy.

But the Javas seem to be ok (touch wood) and their feathers are just starting to open out. They are 16 days old today so right on track to being feathery by 19 days old, like they should be. I forgot how loud Java babies are!

I have two pairs of Society finches nesting out in the aviary so hopefully there will be some more babies to hand raise as they are really sweet little things. I just adore Valentine and Luvy. One pair is our lighter brown boy, Bean and he has paired up with one of his daughters (I think). I'm hoping for some lighter brown babies from them. The other pair is the pair with the not very good track record. Fingers crossed they'll do better this time.

Blooie, here's hoping the doctors figure it out quickly.

Thank you all. Still in a holding pattern here trying to decide if we should go now or wait until Russ lets us know what he wants. EKG and CT scan were within normal limits although she had some seizure activity. This evening they are doing an MRI followed by dialysis to remove the contrast. She'll have her regular dialysis tomorrow. Still unresponsive.

So sorry about Linda.

It would seem best to wait til Russ needs y'all to come, there's not much you can do but wait and see. But, if you do decide to go, please be careful and take care of yourself.

You, Linda and your families are in my prayers.

I walked out to gather the rest of my eggs tonight and got a pleasant surprise...the chicken that went missing Friday was with the rest of the girls. I have no idea where she was and she looked fine, unbelievable! Very sorry about your Piper Jae, she was a pretty little thing

Is she diabetic Blooie? Something like that happened to my mom and she was Septic.

No. she isn't diabetic, DMC. She had a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm on Christmas night. It'll be 5 years this next Christmas. They saved her life but in the process her kidneys died so she's been on dialysis 3x a week ever since. Then three years ago she had a double bypass done. She's had serious health issues since the aneurysm but has always rallied and fought back. She's my hero - has been since we were little kids even though she's 2 years younger than I am - and I ain't ashamed to say it. She's 4'11" of pure fun, energy and spunk and it's been so hard to see her body unable to do what her mind tells her she wants to do the past few years. We thought we were going to lose her a few months ago, but she came back from that one, too.

The year she had her bypass done, I sat next to her bed before they took her down to surgery and I held her hand. I said, "Do you feel my hand?" When she nodded I said, "You hold on to my hand...don't you DARE let go..."

When she was out of recovery and back in her room, we were allowed to go in two at a time. So Ken and I went in. She looked up at me and whispered, "I didn't let go, Diane, but I knew if I did you'd come and find me."

Yeah, that sister. I am so blessed.

This was taken before she got sick. She's the sister on the far right as you look at the photo. Next to her is Lori, then me, then my brother Ron, and then sister Bev. We have a blast together, and our spouses are just part of the gang.

We took this one about 2 years ago. We tried to do this every year, and every year it takes about 100 shots to get one where someone isn't cutting up. But the last two times we were back there she really didn't want to.

Blooie, it's hard to know what to say. Families are special and close siblings are an extension of ourselves. It's like when one of them is in trouble, you are too and it's so difficult to see. I hope you're able to find some comfort and strength from all the well wishes and prayers being said for you and your family. Wish I could give you a hug in person but this will have to do

That's great your girl showed up. Thanks for sharing the good news!

Just when I think I'm done posting, I think of something else to post...sorry for rambling...

DH has had a few tough days and is stressed way too much. Someone in the maintenance crew stole some of DH's personal tools (actually the Christmas present I gave him last year). Today he has to fire one of the pro shop employees. His gall bladder is causing a lot of pain so he goes in today for a sonogram. Any extra prayers for things to get better for him would be much appreciated.

God bless you all for being the kind, special people you are.

Sending prayers your way Debby! If he ends up with gall bladder surgery that is a cake walk compared to the other surgerys he's had. I don't understand why people steal. Did he find the culprit?
