I found a youtube video showing my problem. Decided to try to clean ours before considering a new one. Yesterday got my wash done, did 3 "sterilizing" washes with a washer cleaner. Tomorrow me and DH are gonna take that baby apart and see what's hidden inside . Kinda like Geraldo Rivera's investigation of Al Capone's basement or the Blair Witch Project....no telling what secrets or nasties we may find . I'll take pics if there's anything to report

DMC, I love the naughty chicken on the roof! She looks very pleased with herself to be up higher than everyone else! Yikes about the racoons! How's the very cute Hattie doing? Chaos on four legs?

Here's my little baby at 48 hours old. I've nicknamed it Squeak as that's the sound s/he makes when s/he's hungry. Trying to hold that floppy head and get food into his/her mouth is fun. I'm so scared of squashing him (I'm just going to call it 'him' for now) but he's so wriggly and will turn really fast towards my hand if I let him go meaning he ends up the wrong way round to try and aim food in the right place. I've had to give him a fuzzy wash cloth folded up so he can burrow into it. It's a poor substitute for a feathery mother, but it's going to be very cold again tonight and we'll more than likely have frost in the morning so I'm glad I didn't try giving him back to Pinkie. She's pretty much got a baby under each breast out there and they are growing fast.

I can't get over how tiny he is. I'd be terrified to handle him, so cute though! You do such a good job with them.
Chaos sums Hattie up pretty well. We've never really had a puppy this young before, she is a handful and part of the reason that naughty chicken is on the roof...Hattie is chasing the chickens so not sure what to do there. I let the girls out today for the whole day as it was beautiful out and about 5:30 my son heard chaos outside and we had another fox attack. There was one in the front yard trying to get a chicken and another had already been taken by the coop. I feel bad for them as we've never had this problem before and it's just not safe to let them out. A couple girls are missing lots of tail feathers so apparently they were saved by the skin of their teeth.

I hope the little guy makes it and if so, do name it Squeak.

You should see the drain hoses on fountain pop machines when they have to be cleaned...looks like ground up octopus, absolutely discusting! Imagine what that does to our bodies. Maybe it's chunks of mold in your hoses?

Sorry to hear about your loses I would have a long gun ready at all times now.

Thank you...I'm getting better with a 22. Hubby does not like loaded guns laying around so that probably won't happen I've lost 7 now.

Your poor chickens - I can't believe how many predators you have had to deal with! I keep mine in their run because our section isn't fully fenced and roaming dogs (which are rather common round us) are a bit of a worry, plus I have some tiny bantams and some girls who can't see well round their top knots, but in New Zealand we are lucky that there's very little to worry about predator wise.

Miss Hattie needs someone to peck her on the nose! Pity you don't have an angry broody you can introduce her to!

Look what hatched in my hand today. I'd stuck this egg in the incubator as our Button quail in the aviary has been sitting on her eggs through all the cold and all but this one were infertile or dead. I found this one on the outer side of her nest and it felt cold (I sneaked a peek when she was having a break) and I was so worried it had died. In the incubator it pipped yesterday morning and did nothing all day. This morning it had made very little progress. The membrane looked to be drying out a bit so I got it out and started talking to it and you should've heard the little baby start peeping madly, so happy that 'someone' was there! It was so cute and it kept up a very loud running commentary as it started working very hard on breaking free. The poor little thing all alone in the incubator with no one to cheer him on! I knew Matilda would take it back and she's so happy to have a baby. She and Marvin (her partner) have kept it warm and it'll need both of them tonight as it's going to be another frosty start in the morning.

Totally agree Scott! I cleaned for a guy yesterday that had a gun in several corners of his house.. he said they weren't loaded. I assume there were bullets close by.

Your poor chickens - I can't believe how many predators you have had to deal with! I keep mine in their run because our section isn't fully fenced and roaming dogs (which are rather common round us) are a bit of a worry, plus I have some tiny bantams and some girls who can't see well round their top knots, but in New Zealand we are lucky that there's very little to worry about predator wise.

CUTE!! I bet you are an awesome mom too, such patience.
I had a nasty broody but she got eaten by the big bad wolf! Once the crop is taken out of the fields we will have a better chance at getting them fox. There's too many places to slink off too right now.

You have had too many losses. It will take a long time for the new dog to be trained and get old enough to help - and there's a possibility he may not protect them but be an additional threat. Do you think it's time to get a protected run started?

The hoses are clean, the machine looks like new, sparkling clean. So the gunk has to be on the outside of the inner drum and in the outer drum. Will know later today
