The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good Morning Friends :hugs

Yep, back to work and back to mornings.

There were a lot of auditionees for the role of Seymour, including roosters, butterflies and gnomes but froggy was the standout winner!

I love frogs, especially the green frogs we get here which is one of the reasons I am keen to get the ponds in and under the house nice and green/ferny/tropical etc. While I was pruning one of the shrubs I was being closely watched by 3 adorable baby green frogs. There is one adult who likes to sit on the back deck near the back door every night .. Chimee so wants to be his friend :p

Tee hee N F C I am hoping I can train Audrey to only eat certain people :smack

I think I mentioned in the past that I do not function well on disturbed sleep? I am someone who likes to fall asleep and stay asleep until the alarm goes off. While others can get up a few times during the night and still feel OK in the morning, if my sleep is broken, I am weary.

I am weary today and the reasons are listed below in order of intensity and persistence ;)
  1. Humidity
  2. Mosquitoes
  3. Snoring hubby
  4. Noisy ceiling fan
  5. Noisy night birds
  6. Chatting pussy cats
  7. Barking dog
  8. Neighbour leaving early morning for day of fishing

My cats were having a puking competition today! I would just get a puddle cleaned up, sit down and the other one would meow and puke! Over and over...:sick
Didn't stop me from eating supper though.

I sympathise! Some days you feels like it's a conspiracy! Our girls preferred spot to deposit their hairballs is right under our bed, just out of reach. Our bed has a big, heavy wood frame so it's not easy to move. :barnie

I used to love frogs. We had two pet ones as kids, until the big one ate the smaller one! Ewww! So the big one got let go to make his own way in the world. I do suspect they were different species.

We have eels in our stream at the moment. I hadn't gathered any chicken eggs for quite some time. With so many broody chickens stashing them in awkward places I'd kind of given up and was never quite sure which ones were the fresh ones or which ones they'd had stashed in their wings, and they were always quite grubby. And someone is sleeping in one of the nestboxes which is really annoying as they make an awful mess! So thank goodness for quail eggs. Anyway, I had a smashing good time breaking them on the stream bank for the eels to eat this morning. The eels are a couple of feet long at most so just little ones. I think they are quite cute.

Just mark an x on all the eggs you find and the next day those nests will have only new eggs without marks. Or mark a date if you want them to be incubated. Then you know when to chuck the bad ones.
Eel makes pretty good eating if i remember right. Bet the chickens would love it.

We can't have a rooster where we currently are so no baby chicken chicks for us. We've hatched a few before but only because the person we got the eggs off took back the boys. We are already way over our limit chicken wise and we find it too hard to part with what we hatch, so we'll have to wait until we move to the country.

I showed my son the eel - he had fun smashing some eggs for them to eat. I took some photos until the mosquitoes started biting! I'd love to try eel but I don't fancy trying to catch the slippery things. And these ones are a bit small.

We used to catch them with fishing poles or a big 2 person net. It feels really weird when they wind around your ankles!
