Cat poop parasite controls minds early – and permanently, study finds

by MAGGIE FOX

Even after infection with Toxoplasma gondii has been removed from rodents' brains, they continue to behave as if unafraid of the smell of cat urine, suggesting that the infection causes long-term changes in the brain. Wendy Ingram and Adrienne Greene
A parasite that changes the brains of rats and mice so that they are attracted to cats and cat urine seems to work its magic almost right away, and continues to control the brain even after it’s gone, researchers reported on Wednesday.

The mind-controlling parasite, called Toxoplasma gondii, might make permanent changes in brain function as soon as it gets in there, the researchers report. They aren’t sure how yet.
So he who cleans the litter box is under the control of their cats. Makes sense. I was considering putting a series of shelves about a foot from the ceiling so my cats will stay up there instead of on my furniture. Sounds like they planted that idea in my head!

Guess that would be me, gulp.

Imagine it's hard to gauge the stupidity of guineas from what I have heard. So many contenders for the "empty brain," award. Can't figure out how they start as normal looking chicks(of some type) and then morph into wide bodies and teeny tiny heads with no room for a brain. Come to think of it - I feel that way about me when I look in the mirror.

Sorry I must have awaken on the wrong side of the bed - yet again.
It's Ok , DD, i am less than satisfied with the way i am. But not giving up the foods i love to change it. Lets just be happy!:hugs

I know!

We lost our last cat a couple of years ago to kidney failure. He was able to control us very well. He even was able to control fear in day old chicks!

Lots of things coming up for you, that's exciting! Interesting about the ducks outgrowing the MHP so quickly. What breed are you planning on getting this time?
Well, we have KCs and Rouens now and will be adding 6 Runners. We are just gluttons for punishment....but, watching animals is much more entertaining than any TV these days and times.....hence, the guineas....naw they are the brightest, but they are certainly comical and entertaining.....I prefer to keep them separated from chickens during brooding, because they aren't as challenged by them when they are out and about and will tend to not terrorize them as they all forage. When they are brooded together they see them as competition within the flock instead of just a neighbor...:)

@Teila I'm sorry you won't have Omu (AKA: Sweet Cheeks) as your own but how nice for you to have a new friend in your new hometown
Having a friend in a new town is better than having a new bird. You can buy those (the birds) at a store. Can't buy a friend!

When the next time comes around, I want to try the heating pad method
There is no better way. Pop over to Cowley and talk to Blooie, give her our best ;) Of course I have no idea WHERE you live in Wyoming. "Popping over" might not be all that easy.

I don't know why cats insist on testing gravity all the time!
Because they never know if something might be fun to play with until it hits the ground! If it just lays there, probably not worth the trouble of going down and smacking it again.
