That's why I have 5 dogs, they exercise each other. One dog would be more trouble to me too.

I cannot imagine keeping an intact dog these days, too much work keeping them safe from accidents, that and I lost some dogs when I was younger to mammary cancer due to them not being spayed. It is easier to just get another dog than to have a litter for me. That was a lot of work, and I always worried about every puppy I ever made, too much stress.

Well she is registered, very good stock and i love pups and raising them. She stays in the house with us unless she is outside with us. Yes, it is a worry getting good homes. She was a single pup so no telling how many she might have. It would have to be Spring or Summer, those pups grow fast.

Or get one of those electric ball launchers lol really worth it I'm sure.

Or you should look into a flirt pole. Supposedly it's like an hour walk in 10 mins. Not sure how true that is but it is a lot of exercise cause they jump and chase it and stuff (if they want ha). And you stand still besides moving it :lau

I got one for Gator but he's lazy (or smart?) and waits for it to come to him and the only way he chases it is if I run around and make it move a ton which defeats the purpose lol

But they use them for pits and other real energetic dogs

Also, they say mental exercise/stimulation is extremely important and as important as physical exercise so you could try getting her some of those puzzle toys, teaching her some tricks or even practicing obedience, playing some scent games, etc. Might help tire her out some with less physical exercise.

Also I've heard backpacks can help a lot. Idk why exactly but it makes them think they have a job to do which can tire them out? Put one on her, empty at first of course, and she can wear it when she goes outside or whatever, and then eventually you can add some weight. Maybe some water bottles or something. For some reason having the job can help and I even heard of one dog that refused to go outside without her pack on lol

And also a tennis racquet oddly works for hitting the ball too. My dad used to use one for our old lab because he was obsessed and would make your arm fall off lol so he would take the racquet and hit the ball all the way across the yard (our yard is huge), obviously way further than your arm can throw it, and they get more exercise. Might be worth a try because them you can get more exercise in with less throws/hits if you have a big enough area to do it in haha

Anyway, I know all this stuff is still work and time consuming, but it might be at least a little bit easier than having to do all the physical exercise. If you like it though, biking with dogs can truly help too, they seem to like it.

It's funny how I'm suddenly hearing about flirt poles. I used to use a horse buggy whip with a toy tied to the end to play with my boxer. Unfortunately all that jumping and twisting tore out her knee, so I don't play those games with them anymore, even fast turns while chasing a laser light can rupture an ACL. I tend to have a few damaged dogs due to all their activities. Everyone is exhausted by night around here.

German Shepherd. I am not sure she would like the teaser thing. The cats would. I was considering a ball launcher. She gets things awfully wet, like the frisbee. Husband does do some training with her and she often finds her stick by scent. But the back pack sounds like a good idea. I have a UTV so i could wear her out using that. Just so focused on getting things done before winter hits.

Yeah, a lot of people were probably using them before they were a thing haha

I hadn't thought about the ACL thing but that's a good point too. I guess maybe it depends on the dog (though it can happen to any dog) or maybe for some dogs you could do less twisting and more running in circles aha

Yeah, not all dogs do but it might be worth a shot. Or if you don't want to spend the money right away you could try buying or even making a cheap version first to see if it's something she'd like without buying the expensive one only to find out she doesn't.

I think the ball launcher would be a worthwhile investment plus you could keep it for future dogs.

She sounds like a really smart dog! Maybe she would like some more directed scent stuff, if you wanted to try it. It doesn't even necessarily have to be with a specific scent, you can even train them to find you lol

Yeah, the backpack I think is at least worth trying because it might wear her out or at least take the edge off her energy with no effort from you guys besides putting it on

Yeah, that might be a good idea. Gator is the laziest dog ever but he LOVED chasing the moped or humvee around the yard. My brother doesn't have either anymore but our yard is huge and kind of a bowl so he would just ride it around the bowl and Gator would run after him and get so tired out. I think it would be worth trying with your shepherd. Plus it's a lot of fun too :lau

But yeah, that makes sense.

How old is she? Our’s is about 5 months and tons of energy. I knew going into it they were energetic dogs. She sure likes to haul crap up into the yard from the grove.:rolleyes:

The litter our pup came from is registered but we didn’t register Hattie herself as we don’t want pups. I will be scheduling her spay for the end of the month. She came from a litter of 8...her poor mom!
