I don't have any pics, but I cleaned out the duck pen today and every one of them is inside their pen scarfing up uncovered bugs....and their yard got a new layer of carpet....I'll put fresh hay down this evening for them to bed on, but they always get excited for me to do this for the extra treats. Plus, with the hay in the yard it covers the fallen acorns and provides sure footing on our very slick clay soil this time of year with it raining more often....it also helps our footing in their yard when it is wet or icy....we aren't as young as we used to be so a fall could cause much more than a bruise....:)
 
I used to put hay or pine shaving down sometime but my crazy girls seem to prefer the gross dirt lol its so compacted and gross now after 2 years (and various coverings tried) I am glad they are moving to the new coop and grass soon. Although now lately they seem to be digging for bugs more.

I might try putting shavings down again. The mud is so gross.

I think I am allergic to get or maybe it was just the shredded bales at TSC. Maybe the term isn't shredded idk but the small pieces and it was so DUSTY my arms would itch. Maybe it was the dust or straw
 
I have always used hay....bermuda hay is all that is really available here, and since I have goats....that don't eat much hay at all....I have it readily available and it is only $6.25/bale and is the cheapest way out for me....any waste from the goats is bedding for the ducks. Here is a pic of their empty pen.... IMAG2795.jpg ...they are still billing around inside. That is the Khaki drake just left of center. Here it is with a fresh layer of hay.... IMAG2805.jpg ...the duck area ends where the hay stops and the chickens are on the otherside. This is the new carpet in their yard.... IMAG2794.jpg ...this is their yard area....and this is a pic of my young drake just starting to get his white ringed neck....he will look like a Rouen drake and he is starting to get his green head feathers too.... IMAG2801.jpg ....It is always better to have a pic to go with what I try to explain, so it does make sense....and that I'm not just bloin' smoke....:)

Maybe what I need is fresh real hay instead of the old dusty shredded stuff lol

I've been missing my dark brown Wellie eggs...apparently Sweetie has decided to take a vacation from laying.

Congrats on getting that other dark egg today!
