The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Belated Happy Birthday, @Bunnylady. Happy Birthday, @Blooie, and Happy Birthday, @Teila.

"eau d'animaux" - to me although not the least bit offensive 'horsey' odor is very noticeable. 'Dairy barn' odor in the spring is a bit ranker.

In high school I sat next to Lester V who lived on a dairy farm. One morning there was this overwhelming odor of Bay Rum and ?. I asked him what the Heck? He said that he had walked behind a cow with the springtime trots and gotten blasted. Regardless of how many showers and how much Bay Rum, he stunk.

but when I'm going through the grocery store and can tell which aisles another shopper has been through by the scent trail they have left behind, maybe that's a bit much?
Yep. Many years back at work there was a "just of of college" new hire. You could find your way to the cafeteria by the "scent trail". Didn't matter that she had gone and returned 1/2 hour earlier. I'm pretty sure she reapplied at least once during the day. Someone must have eventually told her she could be traced from a mile away but it took a couple of years.

The problem with fragrances and noses is that your nose has to decide if there is "danger" about by what it smells, very basic survival requirement. But there are SO many odors that your nose ignores the "smelled that, no danger" things once they have been cleared. Thus while someone 'you' walk by says "whoa that is strong" 'your' nose says "hmm, must have worn off, time to reapply".

Same thing when you get home at the end of the day. Your nose smells the familiar smells and ignores them. Someone else would come in and say "they had curry for dinner last night"

Its "tomorrow" Down Under now so
