The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Not during the week because he is at work, but often on the weekends he will be asked "will my chookie chat friends understand [insert word]" or "how best to explain [insert word or thing or action]". However, I note that some things still slip through and cause confusion ;)
How are we going to learn how to "talk Aussie" if you have everything translated first????

That seems a bit minimal. People routinely put that much on their eggnog. Maybe you have a special type of nutmeg down there in NZ?

I heard there were different types of cinnamon and only one was safe for daily use (ceylon) so maybe it's similar for nutmeg?

Morning folks:frow apparently I didn't post this this morning. :th

Debby, one of my friends who's mom was my mentor opened a restaurant, but had an adviser and changed all of mom's recipes. When I went I was so disappointed because she was my mentor as well. Rumor had it that she fed al capone every sunday.... Not sure it's true or not, but she did leave every sunday with a weeks worth of preparations and leave frozen fish sticks for sunday meal.

Either way as the restaurant started to fail, she asked for advice.. I told her to fire the adviser and cook her mom's recipes. She did and emailed all her customers with flavor coming back. and she turned it around.

What we call a BBQ place and you are two different things. Most BBQ places here smoke their meat. For you, if it's cooked on the barbie it's BBQ.

I'll offer a script that works for DW. a couple table spoons of local honey. a few drops of citrus oil that you like, a small dropper of rosemary oil and a slightly larger dropper of peppermint oil. a full cup of water and nuc for two minutes. Then add camamile lavender tea.

It seems to work wonders for female issues.

KD, the definition of BBQ here and abroad is different.

Oh whoops! Apparently I am rather culturally ignorant. :oops:s

Although it's weird, now that you say that, I actually have heard that but forgot haha

Actually, I think I once heard that the whole "I cooked some shrimp on the barbie, mate"/anything barbie typical Australian imitation thing wasn't actually true and that real Australians don't actually say that?

So probably why I'm confused lol

But yeah, sorry for not specifying that it is smoked meat!!

Oh and that's awesome she was able to turn the restaurant around!! Should've never listened to the other guy though. Why did he want to change the recipes so bad?

May be switch what you are throwing at them and aim better :p

Tee hee, just kidding! We are definitely unique :lau

I am pleased you are available to translate for the thread and being married to an American, I have hubby to translate for me :p

Even just of late, hamburger buns v hamburger rolls .. buns in Aussie are a whole different thing :p :lau

We have hamburger mince you have ground beef.

You have BBQ [smoked], we have BBQ [cooked on a bar-be-que] :p

Are buns slang for butt? Because Americans do sometimes say that too!!! We just also name hamburger rolls that. :lau

Mince is such a strange word lol though we do have minced garlic and other things.

And that's great you have a translator! LOL

Hey KD the term is “throw another shrimp on the Barbie” and yes, we BBQ [not smoke] shrimp which we refer to as prawns.

However, if someone calls you a prawn ... whole different meaning :p

Yep, buns = buttocks

Hamburger mince is also minced beef, which, if you think about it is correct because it is beef that has been through a mincer.

There are many kinds of cinnamon that you can buy. I did not realize that until the mother of a friend of DD1's took me to a spice shop in Illinois. I'd never heard of a spice shop either, just get stuff at the grocery store. By the time I smelled all the different cinnamons, I couldn't smell ANYTHING and brought home some Vietnamese cinnamon. That stuff is potent, use less than you would from the generic "McCormick's" bottle.

@Teila Minced beef goes through a mincer, ground beef goes through a meat grinder. I suspect they are the same device.
I'm no expert but I think:
Things cooked on a BBQ are BBQed but BBQ is not just any old thing cooked on a BBQ. That isn't confusing, right? BBQ, the food, relates to how the food is prepped/seasoned. Dry rub or wet sauce. Now I'll let the experts tell us the details.

Who needs a laugh? Look at our dopey cat:
