The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Feel almost human this morning, thanks. We were gonna spend the night in Sundance and drive home today, but another winter storm is barreling down on us and the mountains were already icy with snow coming down when we crossed them yesterday morning. Parts of I-80 and I-25 were shut down yesterday due to high winds, but that was far south of where we were. We only got the 40mph stuff. We knew the mountains would just get worse overnight, and I have Kendra this afternoon, so we had to get back. We have trips to Sheridan, Casper, Douglas, and Chugwater coming up this month yet, too. Sheridan isn’t bad - two and a half hours up and over Big Horns - I think overnights are in the works for the other trips.

Debby, Debby.....you know you ain’t gonna get Workman’s Comp so would you please quit getting hurt? WC saved my hiney once, though. A cat I was working on suddenly took great exception to a flea dip and went from relaxed in my arms to berserk in seconds. Cat-Scratch Fever is real, folks - and expensive!

Love the idea of unplugging and rebooting Australia! Made me giggle!

Okay, gonna catch up the rest of the way...
I had a bad reaction to a cat scratch once. A young kitten scratched me. I didn't even worry about it. But it turned into a tunneling wound on my hand. After that i refused to groom cats. Not worth it.

Morning everyone:frow

Day 2 on the job and I fell...scraped up my face and tweaked my knee. I'm getting too old for this work stuff!

I hope you are better soon!

Rose thorns can get you too!

Puncture wounds are bad but puncture wounds with bacteria or a toxin are brutal!

When the kids were little I could eat 2 Whoppers (back when they really WERE Whoppers), a large order of onion rings, a chocolate shake and a Coke - in one sitting - then finish off what little bits the kids got too full to eat. You know, “Too little to save, too much to dump. That’s what makes a housewife plump.” I weighed 120 pounds.

Now if we stop at BK after our 50 mile drive to Cody, I can eat maybe half a Whopper Junior with just lettuce, tomato and mayo and eat a couple of Ken’s fries and I’m stuffed. I can’t eat but once a day, so that “meal” holds me until late afternoon the next day. I weigh in the neighborhood of 155 pounds. <sigh> The gastro doc was a little concerned about that constant full feeling without weight loss, so a tummy tumor was one of the things they were going to look for during the endoscopy, although that’s certainly not a definitive diagnostic test. So I guess it’s just getting old changing my metabolism. I know I couldn’t sit down to 6 Der Weinerschnitzle chili dogs, large fries and a large chocolate shake now! :sick

WOW!

Though I'd probably be able to eat that too haha

I used to cook half a pound of bacon and make sandwiches until it was all gone when i was a teen. I could burn it off back then.

I don't like bacon lol

I think I can always find room for ice cream when I am otherwise "stuffed to the gills," because it is generally liquid going down. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.:plbb

Lol same

Morning all :frow
Jae, glad no significant damage
KD, Hope you're feeling better
Teila, I can't keep up
Debby, Glad you had a short day
Michelle, WOW! Huge pancakes...

Thanks! Somewhat. Think it might be sinus infection. Stuffed nose.

Good morning all! Couldn’t resist posting this cute picture of Hattie.

Awwww

Those were the days eh?

I hope they figure out what's up with the stomach for you. Food is such a wonderful (and necessary) part of life. It's a shame not to be able to enjoy it!

X2

At least they recognize it!! Some would say "$X to clean the place no matter what it looks like".

They were right to ask if you wanted only 2!! And I bet you pushed beyond "done" to eat as much as you did, just to see if you could eat it all.

Um, nope me either. 1 of those would be breakfast. Of course there would have to be uncured sausage or bacon to go with it.

The kitchen is (not that it is big!) and DD1 has a 10" round cast iron skillet that I GUESS would be the right size to cook one of those pancakes but I KNOW I haven't got a spatula big enough to flip it!

Did she put herself in there?? Hoping for transportation to her breakfast?

Some of my spatulas barely flip omelettes or normal size pancakes lol

LOL

Here is the pile of stuff hubby and i loaded on the truck, then unloaded at the burn site.View attachment 1334468

Nice!

You can toast hotdogs and marshmallows for the whole town on that!

Not sure you'd be toasting anything on that! Too big! And hot. Maybe with a mile long stick :lau

We invited the neighbors over for a wiener roast once when we burned brush. The fire burnt for a couple of days

I grew up on a Prune Orchard

That's nice! We never did that

A married Faculty couple here did that! They were here for 6 months for Spring and summer and then went to Australia for 6 months, Spring and summer. It was a year without winter or Fall for them!

Wow how nice!

Now THAT is what I call "snow birding"! Most of them only go < 1,500 miles.

Lol true

Since they are Faculty at a Tier one research University, they go on Grant money too!

:wee

Wow even better!

They don't want me to quit:confused:Yes, she put herself in there. She’s so funny sometimes. She loves the gator...she was waiting for hubby to get done with what he was doing so she could have a ride.

Haha awww!

My brother used to have a humvee and Gator LOVED that thing. He used to take him around town or to the beach and stuff lol with a leash on though and he'd hold it or have someone else hold it or tie it on so he couldn't jump out but yeah. He just LOVED it. It's fun for dogs. You can see and smell a lot more being wide open like that.

Working on painting at house.
Just have living room ceiling and all of dining room left to do.

Nice house!

I'm rather proud of myself. DS told me he'd seen a rat down the back "and it wasn't in the trap"! I told him to stay away from it. Later I saw it so I grabbed a bit of wood and whacked it on the head. It was dozy from eating the poison which was good because I have terrible aim! It's body was as big as my foot!

I think I've talked DH into getting a whippet to be my ratter/rabbiter as we'll need one in the country (our poor country is overrun with both, plus we have stoats and other than hawks there's nothing to eat them). I'm not sure I could cope with a terrier but a sight hound knows how to blob out when it's not work time. We couldn't afford to register two dogs in Auckland. It's a third of the price for dog registration where we are looking at going!

How are the keets hatching Cap? Have you got buyers lined up for them?

Michelle, you are putting us to shame. We need to get stuck in and get this place painted. I've been sanding all the doorframes in preparation for painting as they are all new and needed filling.

I might have screamed lol

And aw I think a whippet would be good!

Here registration is.. a lot cheaper than I thought lol I figured it'd be like $100 or something but I looked it up and it is $12 for spayed/neutered dogs, $17 for unneutered dogs, and free for people over 70. Required for dogs 6 months and older and lasts a year. Of course need rabies and proof of spay/neuter.

They also have a beach dog walking permit which is $5. Or, again, free for people over 70.

You very ambitious, hard working folks are just plain wearing me out. I just got up from napping and now feel I need another one. :gig

Lol same

Home. Tired! Drove 650 miles today. Went to Newcastle for a Masonic Cornerstone ceremony, then turned around and drove straight back. Love you guys but I’m crashing !

Wow long drive!

Ouch!

Yep. DH needs to learn about picking up stuff instead of leaving things laying around.

Lol hope he learns

Sorry about the fall NFC! Take care of yourself.

I can understand the gator a bit more than the wagon. I ASSUME she's had more rides in the gator. She knows how to tell you what she wants!

:th
I thought my 440 mile round trips were plenty long!!

Dogs love those things lol

Glad you got home safely. Hope you can stay the other times!

And I didnt realize cats could be so dangerous.

Are you sure you aren't related to me? 'Cause I swear, you sound more like family all the time!

BB2K's Theater class presented their plays a couple of nights ago. Knowing that I wouldn't see her until after the performance, I sent her a text message - "fracture a femur . . or, y'know, whatever" (playing around with the ol' 'break a leg' theater standard). She texted back, "No femurs will be fractured, I hurt myself enough as it is. But I will try my best!" When I collected her at the end of the performance (which went well), I noticed she was limping a bit. Seems that, between the end of the school day and curtain time, she and some of her friends had been horsing around in the park near the school, and she'd had an encounter of the painful sort with a downed tree. Scraped and bruised her left knee, and gotten a couple of bruises on her right hip. I was like, "y'know, Kiddo, 'break a leg' is just a saying; you're not really meant to do it!":barnie

Wow! Hope She's okay!

Wow scary!

I never knew cat scratches could be so dangerous...

I know dog spit can be bad.

But cat scratches?

Makes me not want to have a cat lol

But then again I always wash all scratches from any animal with soap and hot water immediately. And sometimes put hydrogen peroxide on it or Neosporin. I'm kind of obsessive like that haha

And I wash my hands a ton too.
