The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thanks! I'll have to look for that.

Well, I got most of the garden planted today. Still have to put out tomatoes, peppers, herbs and some broccoli.... And I cobbled together a chicken barrier out of left over fence, zip ties and T-posts. Folks on the garden thread said I didn't need to buy the deer fence that 2' chicken wire would work. So I've used a combination of 2', 3', and 5' chicken wire and a 10' piece of 4' 1/4" hardware cloth. It's definitely country engineering, but appears to work. I still have one more hole to block off, but they haven't discovered it yet.

I still have peppers and tomatoes inside. Started them late ha

My peppers haven't sprouted. :(

I think the container/soil might be too wet. Idk.

Give ‘em a minute! :lau

Lol

That's right they'll find it -they do have brains when they decide to use them

Too true! Mine are able to engineer a grand escape yet get stuck in the run with a wide open door.

It was funny... I hadn't blocked off one of their favorite entry points when I took a break. Came back and had a hen totally confused stuck in there because she couldn't remember how she got in. She didn't do any damage as all she did was pace the fence line... She would get within 2' of the totally open space and turn around and walk it again. BTW this is the hen who likes to lay eggs on top of one of my chicken houses. She flies really well, but never thought to use her wings. BTW, collecting eggs from the top of the chicken house is a real pain.

LOL mine do that too! Yesterday Bunny was trying to figure out how to get into the run when I tossed the sunflower seeds in. She kept pacing back and forth and yes, turning around before she got to the end, and she also got stuck between the fence and the wire barrier I had on the door, which I need to move to open it. That one was my fault for putting it there but still. She got stuck like 3 times. Stop going in there!! Lol she finally figured it out though.

But a lot of mine do the pacing the run thing when they're outside and I toss stuff inside. They see their friend's eating yet can't figure out how to get in. I think having a see thru fence throws them off. Maybe they don't understand the concept of fences?

My less bright ones also love to go to inside the run for whatever reason while free ranging, maybe to get water or food?, and go to the far end then get stuck there. Despite the wide open door. They will pace but only go up about 6 feet (run is 12 feet) before turning around!! Or sometimes they will go a tiny bit further and are so close then turn around. They always eventually get it though.

But like... why is this a process? You've lived there 2+ years. :lau

I'm hoping though that in this new one it will be easier because there is no coop in the middle blocking their vision.

I'm so tired but yes it was a big step... I have been bad and haven't selected the plants that get to go forward out of my tomatoes and peppers. Once I get them planted, I'll clip off the extras and see if I can root them.

Nice!

Ron
that pizza looks delicious! :drool

Kelsey I hope your back recovers quickly. Great pictures and awesome job! :clap

Love the hanging basket Cap!

Tee hee at the funny Debby!

Not that I need a reminder of why I want out but today is release day and I have been here 4 hours and resolved 26 of the incoming 41 tickets received so far :caf

Luckily hubby’s cold has not affected me too badly to date, just a few sneezes and a bit of a sore throat; unlike him who completely lost his voice yesterday and looked like death warmed up! ;)

I got another pressie from Hubby on Thursday! Should I ask him what he did? LOL :gig

Thanks so much!! And my back is already feeling slightly better :)

Surprisingly it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it was going to, just slightly achy. I also sometimes get muscle spasms/twitches so I guess comparatively it feels not as bad.

Anyways, thanks!

They seem to love it.

Today they were dust bathing!! The spot we put it happens to already not have much grass and is sandy/dirt/dusty so perfect for bathing. And they won't ruin the grass lol I'm not really sure why that section is like that. Perhaps from working on coop but we never really set anything there and even before that it was slightly like that. We did used to put sandboxes over near that region though. We also have those mud bee things that maybe dug up? And used to have ants before these moved in.

Anyway, they love it so not complaining lol

And they also went to bed all by themselves tonight AND 3 of them laid! :D

The only slight "issue" is the boxes are so big and deep and full of shavings it is easy to lose eggs haha for instance, a fake one was already buried. But that's alright. Not too hard to find them. The 3 from tonight weren't buried.

Also, my broody apparently decided to sleep in the nest box! Last night she stayed on the roost but tonight, I guess now that she has decided and established that the nest boxes are safe, she planted herself. And didn't even try to escape. Tbh I think now that she has tried these nest boxes out, she's realized that they are wayyyy bigger and more comfy than the old nest boxes and decided she doesn't want to go back to the old coop anymore! Who would? :lau

Some questions are better left unanswered, Teila - and unasked! Reap the benefits! :lau

Learning great life lessons here, thanks :lau

Tee hee, yep, I should wait until the presents stop coming and then ask! LOL

Just kidding; I trust him. On both occasions he just "saw them and knew I would like them" ... now I just have to bide my time until the clutter has gone and I have somewhere to display them ;)

Aw that's sweet!

There are a little over a dozen farms through out the middle part of the state trying to do the type of farming we do and they all have horror stories about state agencies. I have not tangled with them yet, but am trying to stay under their radar. Their biggest issue is that I free range my birds and they see that as bio-terrorism.

Free ranging = bio-terrorism? Crazy!

(I'm trying to catch up this morning so bear with me!)

And good morning!

Ended up working all day yesterday and was too tired to get on the computer once I got home. Gotta leave for work in another 30 minutes but hopefully not another full day.

So I got caught up so I wouldn't be so far behind

Hope you all have a lovely day!
