The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Thanks I love the old memories... Grandma would drop off her scripts (written on paper back then) and we'd go to the restaurant. The scripts would be delivered to the table.

Boy am I rusty... I used to read a bit of Korean and speak survival Korean.... Tell the taxi how to take me home, order a meal or drink and be polite. I think I'm left with two words these days... Been a long time.
Oh wow o_o
Have you ever been to Korea?

It's a big, red barn that is a house.
So you would have to build a barn that looks like a house?

In my case the dentist had a messy divorce and his ex got a big settlement. So why is that my fault :idunno
Maybe time for a second opinion. My Dad was going to a dentist and liked the hygienist. Dentist retired, hygienist moved on, dentist's son took over. All of a sudden Dad "needed" a lot of dental work. He happed to see the hygienist at the grocery store and found out where she was working. He went there. All of a sudden the "needed" dental work wasn't.

OMG!!
Can I come live with you if you get it Jae? That is absolutely amazing!

There's a spare bedroom for you. It doesn't have any flooring laid so that's one thing that will need doing. We'd want to lay wood flooring. Andrew met a flooring guy at work (a customer) and he recommended American Oak. We have a native timber on our current floor but the native ones tend to shrink which creates annoying gaps just perfect for birdseed to get stuck in! Cockatiels are not tidy birds.

My arm is sore from painting yesterday, but we'll keep going today. It looks amazing after only one coat. We are just putting 2 coats of white undercoat on everything and whoever buys it can choose their own colours. DH hates painting but I enjoy it, especially the transformation. It makes such a difference. I forgot to take a before photo, but we are just doing our huge entrance hallway and big kitchen first. Then it's onto the dining and living area (which is all open plan).

Good Morning Friends :hugs

On the subject of cats and greens; while she does not eat them, Chimee loves to play with green beans.

Jae I love the property!!!!

Have you seen the ‘concrete with stamped wood grain flooring’? My sister had it done at her place and it looks awesome! I can not get my head around the fact that it is not timber.

Hi DMC, are you all enjoying some nice weather now?

Our forecast is for 78* today with a chance of snow Saturday. So still doing some back & forth on temps. The past couple of days have been lovely though :D
Hi Debby! It actually got warm but I’m not whining. It’s been humid too. It’s really nice right now. It rained a little last night. We still have frost in the ground so hope that comes out soon so we can get the corn in the field. Glad you had some nice days.
My mom attempted canning a couple of times... the poor woman was a horrible cook. She was making jelly... decided there was too much sugar in the recipe, so cut it in half. Needless to say, it was a tad runny.

Then there's the time she went to one of those pick your own places. She picked bell peppers among other things. She cut them up, put them in a plastic bag, used a straw to suck the air out, then used a twist tie. All of our food tasted like peppers for about a year...
I bought a food saver and it works fantastic for freezing peppers and onions...no stink!
I do remember Walgreen's, Kresge's and Woolworth's having lunch counters. One of my favorite memories of Ma was that Woolworth's lunch counter.

Once upon a time, before agoraphobia hit Ma so hard, she was a shopper. Loved to spend the day perusing downtown Sioux Falls. She never learned to drive a car, so a taxi was our usual transportation. Sometimes Dad would take her with him as he headed back to work after lunch, drop her off at the State Theater, then pick her up there when he got off at 5 - well, Ma and whichever of the kids was going with her.

Ma and I had to go downtown to find my wedding dress. Funds were limited - extremely limited - and we didn't have a lot of time since the wedding was in a week. I didn't even find out until years later that Dad sold his shotgun just to give her those limited funds. So we didn't get to hit the fancier formal apparel stores like Fantle's, but we shopped until our feet were about to fall off. And holy smokes it was snowing hard and cold!! Believe it or not we found my wedding dress and veil at Woolworth's, and the shoes to go with it. The dress was expensive at $42.00 and the shoes were $7.00, but Ma would still have a little money left over. While I tried on the dress, which fit like it was made for me, she ordered some lunch for us. After she ordered, I modeled the dress for her, hoping and praying she'd like it as much as I did. She came over to stand in front of the dressing room and gently touched my face, not saying a word, then had me twirl around right there in the store so she could see the whole thing.

I'm sure it was a combination of how grown-up and beautiful I felt in that dress with my first ever high heels, that special shopping day with Ma, and how soft her smile was when I came out of that dressing room that made that shared hot beef sandwich, fries and strawberry malt the best meal I've ever eaten. We ate at the counter, laughing and talking while the clerk wrapped up my future in paper and a big brown Woolworth's bag. She cried a little but got over that quickly, then gave me my one bit of marital advice, "Love can't grow without respect."

Then we bought my brother two guppies and left.
What a memory:love

I'm trying not to get my hopes up and we haven't even seen it in person yet but it is the first one that I've really liked and I've been looking awhile.
Holy cow, wow! Beautiful!
