One of my 6 week old chicks was jumping up in the air and biting the air constantly. I thought she had some weird neurological problems. Nope. Turns out it was nosee'ems. No see'ums live here in NJ. They are minute (smaller than mites) that come out in the evening and have a bite 50 X larger than their size.

oh, i was raised in ft.walton bch, met husband when he was stationed down at hurlbert air force base LOOOONG time ago. if we had no seeums i never knew it but we had everything else, some of those were my toys and pets, altho tree frogs were kinda rare, guess thats why snakes don't bother me altho i will kill a poisonous one if i run across one, everything else is safeWhen we had our little farm, it was about 50 miles east of Gainesville, sort of north/central FL. We had no-seeums, Love bugs, mosquitos, stink bugs, lizards, snakes, tree frogs and about every other kind of critter.
