The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Sean I gave up ice cream, even the soft serve stuff which isn't even ice cream. Now I can't think of things to eat because ice cream was always the answer. Sure made meals easy.

BTW Sean, I am passing the (ice cream) torch on to YOU. I think you can tough it out without getting addicted. I know you'll do me proud. :yesss:
DD idk how you gave up ice cream. I wanted a sundae so badly when i came back from the hospital in Lynchburg, but it was 1 am and they were all closed.

I had quit taking pills until i hurt myself on that perch. Then i took a pill before i got to the emergency room. They never did give me anything for pain and my face was hanging open.
I am going to go take a pill. I don't like the pain to get ahead of me. Rather control it.
Yeah, when the meat wagon took me in this time, they started an IV but didn't give me any pain killer. I didn't get any pain meds till after they did x-rays and admitted me in a room...then it took them 30 more minutes before that happened. Granted they had about 10 full blown emergencies in that same time span. Several were code blue, so they were pretty busy. Two of the other emergencies were friends, 1 died but they got her heart ticking again.

Cap you should have seen how horrible I looked when I had mohs surgery to remove the basal cell tumor I had near tip of nose. Then he did a skin graft to fill in the opening. I looked like I was run over by a truck(just the face). Dr. said he could smooth out the lines with lazer but, told him I wasn't vain ( didn't have the $$$)

BTW tip of nose and ears are most likely places. People don't realize they are out all the time and need sunscreen daily. I had the photos for a long time- don't know why. But deleted them one day because I thought it was gross to hang on to them. Still I can't believe how things eventually got back to normal.

Health care is chronically understaffed. Took me an hour to get out of hospital once because the nurse had a new person to admit. Glad i don't work as a nurse any more.

So this is what i see in the mirror today.

Even the sides of my face are swollen.
Good grief, are you putting ice on your face and scalp? I'm sure you are but "expliciative here" that is by far worse than I am. So sorry Cap, :hugs:hugs:hugsthat hurts me just looking at that pic.

The tissues are too tender for ice, they would freeze. I have saline and gauze, and i refrigerate the saline. Then i put the gauze on my eyes and scalp.
It really isn't so bad, better than a compound fracture of the femur!
I don't think so, had my face completely smashed in an accident, my face took the whole brunt of the impact with the steering column. All the bones in my face were the size of oat meal and split open from my right eyebrow to my chin, right down the middle of my face. Took 7 surgeons 14 hrs to reconstruct my face. They put me in a drug induced coma for 22 days due to swelling of my brain. Wasn't expected to live through the night. Wasn't a very pleasant experience after they brought me out of the coma. Was still swelled up and major bruising for weeks after.... but the pain wasn't ever not tolerable.
