Don't think I would want to smell a hamster. My cousins had one when I was a kid, it was always escaping till their dog Nippy, caught it. Then they needed another hamster.

my potbelly, or thats what i thought he was when i bought him but he doesn't have the potbelly and is taller so he might be a cross, but hes a spoilt house pig

The point is, hamsters really don't smell. If you don't clean the cage, then the cage stinks.
