But we both said “He’s out” as soon as they took him on his “down and back” and then his “once all the way around”. His shoulders were set a bit too close, and that showed in his movement. It wasn’t from having been shown in a large field all day and being a little tired, either. You could see his shoulders move in toward center clearly as he moved and that’s a structure thing. Unless it’s real severe, like one of my Flat Coated females had, it usually isn’t a huge deal in smaller shows, but once a dog is in the group competition and moves into the Best Of Show in these more prestigious shows, it can be overlooked only if everything else is spot on and the others in the group have no more serious faults of their own. Obviously I didn’t have my hands on, so the judge may have picked on something else, like maybe the shoulder set was throwing the neck or prow off. But more than likely given the high quality of the competition, it couldn’t be overlooked.

The Irish Water Spaniel went in there asking for it, and I loved his overall structure and gait. But we either tuned in too late and missed the Flat Coated Retriever or they didn’t show it. (Had a Toller, hated it...it went back to the breeder. Entirely too independent and dominant for what I wanted, and that was years before AKC recognition.) Anyway, I really liked the Whippit that ended up taking BOS. The only really high-end dog show they show in its entirety is Westminster, takes two nights, and that comes up in February. Well, not shown in it’s entirety - if they showed every breed competition a year wouldn’t be long enough! One of my Flatcoats took Best of Breed at The Chicago International at McCormick Place and that was stress enough for me - I stuck to smaller circuits after that! But his son, Thorin, took Best in the Bred by Exhibitor class at a Flatcoat Specialty show, and I was so proud of him.

Oops, I know, TMI. But I used to love showing until Rueben died...lost the heart for it after that, which weeded me out as a real serious competitor to begin with.

Got everything crossed for the house-setting!!

Sharron, will they let him fly that soon after his procedure? They told me a full month. Guess when it comes to after-care, ultimately it just depends on what each doctor is comfortable doing, or what he sees as potential problems further down the road.

That's weird about the Golden cause I watched right when it switched from terrier and watched the whole sporting breed section, maybe they showed it live but cut the replay down?

Noo not tmi! I love dogs and dog shows and everything and hearing all the details about why dogs win or didn't win or whatever and structure and all that is fascinating. Do you have any thoughts on the spaniel that one the group?

Yep, they did cut some out the second time it aired.

I had some cordycep mushroom powder last night before bed. I had dreams wake be up!

I need to have that closer to dinner than bed time LOL! Of course I was dreaming about chickens....

hopefully you will get an MRI this time. It sounds more like a disk and nerve issue
 
Kelsey, I was in and out during the dog show. I have a bad habit of getting stuff done as quick as I can UNTIL they show a breed I either particularly like, or one that I was learning judging on. Ken will yell, “Water Spaniel” or “Clumber” or whatever, and if I want to see that breed. Then I stand in the living room with dishwater dripping on the floor from my hands and watch very intensely, heading back to the kitchen when that breed is done! I do watch Westminster start to finish, though.
