The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Cap, either I missed what happened at the ER or you haven’t said....and I was asking the other day, too! So how are you doing?

For anyone who thinks they’d like a big dog, check these out! In the one with her head, that’s my size 10, wide foot next to it! I posted these on another thread so if you’ve seen them before, forgive me. But even though I was no stranger to Irish Wolfhounds, having one and seeing her grow....and grow...and grow is astounding, especially in this little house. And she is so darned sweet! All of her orneriness is done outside, and she can be pretty destructive out there. But she’s the gentlest thing!

Thanks for asking Blooie! The pain is not getting better but i did get an rx for some pain pills other than Motrin. They would not order an MRI because they don't have one there. So i will see the Ortho doc on Thursday this week and hopefully they will order it.
The pain is miserable, and the Lortabs i had from before just take the edge off the pain. I will be spending most of the day in Lynchburg tomorrow after my appt with the Plastic surgeon for my one month follow up. No pain pills while driving. Sigh.
I have found that if i keep busy it hurts less than if i sit around thinking about how much it hurts. I am suspecting a disc problem or bone spurs, which might cause the numbness in my left thumb. It will likely be next week before i get any results even if they order an MRI right away.
I love your dog by the way!

Thanks for the update - I wondered how it had gone and if you learned anything. Doesn’t sound like you know any more than you did when you went in, that it hurts!

Yeah, don’t take the pain pills and drive! I learned that one the hard way. I’d had foot surgery and the pain was awful. So I took the prescription pain pill they gave me, then two hours later I took more. Ken had gone to a friend’s house in Lovell (6 miles away) to put in an outlet. But in my pain induced drugged state I kept thinking he’d gone to Powell, which is 20+ miles away, and for some reason I thought I had to talk to him right darn now!! So I drove to Powell. I don’t remember much of the trip....I do remember being passed on the highway by a couple of tractors hauling field equipment. Yeah. I drove around Powell, then remembered that he was at Jim and Rita’s so I drove over there. By then he was long finished with the job, had gone back home, and found me gone. What followed was a bad episode of Keystone Cops (thank goodness there were no real cops involved) with us missing each other by minutes at times. We didn’t have cell phones then either - we did get them very shortly after. Anyway, I came back home after check8ng the store, the gas station, post office, and I just went to bed. That’s where he found me - sound asleep as if nothing had happened. He did have to move my car....I’d parked at the neighbor’s house. So no pain pills when you have to drive!! :lau

And remember when they gave me morphine during my heart attack a couple of years ago and I changed my BYC password on the ambulance ride to Billings? :he

Thanks, we are crazy about our Fiona too!

Awww so sweet

She sure is!

I hope they figure out what's wrong Cap. That does sound miserable.

Fiona is so gorgeous! I've seen photos of how enormous they get. How long do they take to get to full size?

And I can't believe Libby is almost a year old!

She should be fully grown any time....oh, she’ll add a little height and maybe a few pounds until about 18 months old, but it won’t be the dramatic growth we’ve seen over the last months. Her weight right now is ideal for any dog....when you run your hands along their sides you should be able to feel ribs. Not like gaunt and skinny, just kinda like a xylophone under a light blanket effect. So if she stays like that as she grows we know she’s all in balance growth-wise. The UPS guy was here today and she was out. We weren’t expecting our package so soon or she’d have been in the house. But I’d introduced them once before soon after we got her, so he was prepared with a giant dog biscuit. Now they’re best friends! :hugs

I got my 2 Easter Eggers, a couple of Light Brahmas, a couple of Buff Brahmas, 2 Blue Splash Marans, 2 Black Jersey Giants, 2 Speckled Sussex, and a Cream Legbar. And I stop there! 13 is way more manageable than the 27 we were up to at one point.
I thought you were off the feather footed Brahmas??
And yeah, you can count to 13 to see if they are all there. Gets a bit messy with them all buzzing around when you get many more.

Ordered a skijoring line and skijoring belt from Howling Dog Alaska cause they had a 20% sale today.
Now you gotta go up to DB and FSIL's place in Vermont to use them!

Damn! I'm really sorry things are not getting better at all. :hugs

I can’t believe that she’s almost a year either! Also can’t believe that it’s been almost a year since they adopted her. February is only 2 months away. It feels like yesterday they adopted her lol

I love big dogs. They’re the best.

Yup! And I probably will at some point. And New Hampshire. And Maine. Lol there’s probably a few places around here I could use it but definitely not as many and nowhere near as fun or as much snow as up north. :p plus the season starts way later here. There’s already snow up there, right?

I probably should have bought like 3 sets or something or at least two cause I’m sure this is a sport they will LOVE lol they are very outdoorsy and love skiing, especially backcountry, and dogs and up north so it’s the perfect sport lol

Found some dog sled races to go to but hooooolyyyyyy mackerel some of these are WAY up there and FAR away. Even further than @bruceha2000 I think. I bet it’ll be COLD and plenty of snow on the day of the races lol I didn’t realize they were quite so far up till I Googled it aha might not be able to go now. But maybe I’ll just go to one. And/or take my passport and go to Canada.
