The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I was raised in the burbs too. But ran around in the woods catching critters.

We had a creek at the end of the street. We caught leeches.

The parents in our neighborhood didn't like us kids hanging around the creek...there was a mental hospital on the other side of the creek and sometimes there were "walk aways" hanging out down there.

Ever feel like an alien among 'humans'?

Sure. Humans can be very hard to figure out and live with.

If DH & I ever win the lottery, we want to buy a mountain. Not a house on the mountain, but the whole mountain. With a moat and big fence all around it. Keep those pesky humans out.

That's not weird, that's dangerous!

My DH wants an island for exactly those reasons. People can be very annoying. I have to say I'm looking forward to neighbours being a lot further away when we move! And we have a really big residential property by current standards. They've been building terraced houses close by and they would be my worst nightmare. I'd go nuts living in one of those. Way too close to 'people'.

Yep, it can just get too "peopley" sometimes.

Here's one for @Blooie , I don't know if you have seen this one before? Maybe it might take the 'chill' outta the Wyoming winter....for a minute anyway!

Awww. Thanks Sean! I’m gonna keep him forever!!!

I love the sound of a gentle rain on a tin roof, great for sleeping.

Um, never lived in a 1970s trailer house, I take it....

Appreciate that Sean, but 'weird' is a real state. It bothered me as a kid, but I have come to embrace my weirdness. When he was about 8 my oldest grand son told the Princess, "Emmy, Pa is really weird." Being concerned she asked him, "You mean scary weird?" His reply, "No way. He's awesome weird. None of my friends have a grandfather like him." Love that kid. I'm not allowed favorites, but ------------------

I have a favorite too. It’s Jamie, because he was my first and we raised him. It’s Austin, because he was such a talented videographer and will forever be 23. It’s Little Diane, because she was the first granddaughter and she’s named after me, and we raised her. It’s Evan, the surprise baby, coming 16 years after his big brother Austin was born and so loving and giving. It’s Katie, because she was a gift from the start, 11 years into her parents’ marriage and because she’s overcome her Autism with grace, wisdom and humor. It’s Kendra, the jewel in the family crown, because she is such a pure joy to watch as she experiments with life and learns.

Well, except for today. There are drawbacks to a 7 year old with the development of an 18 month old, and who can crawl and stand up on things. Mom called me, absolutely frantic. Seems Katie had received a funky nail polish kit for Christmas. Kendra’s new big Horsey got a paint job with a bottle of white nail polish. So did her clothes, the hardwood floor in her bedroom, and anything else she touched. Here is a photo Jen sent me of her hands....can you imagine the interior decorating this child managed this afternoon? Now, personally as long as Kendra doesn’t get hurt I find her voyages into toddlerhood extremely amusing. But then I’m not Jenny.

I wasn't always that way...until about 6 or 7 yrs old, I was the epitome of the cartoon character 'Hardy har har' ....oh me, oh my, I know this just won't work.
After telling my dad numerous times "I can't" or "that will never work", I started to realize that it "did work" or "I could"....so don't tell me "I can't", I'll do it just because I can. :gig
