you want me to go back and change the way i worded it?

depends, we raised sheep for years, i just couldn't like it and we always butchered a lamb for ourselves, would cook it for husband, he loved lamb chops and leg of lamb but i would make something else for myself, anyway, these were wool sheep, finally he came home from work one day and told me he had bought a little ram from one of our customers (he had been repairing her furnace) i ask him, don't we have enough young rams lambs and he informed me , this is a hair sheep, ok, just what the heck is a hair sheep? well, its one we don't have to shear, he will shed his wool in the spring, ok, this i gotta see but since i hate to shear, lets give it a try, needless to say, we found a couple of ewes in ohio to buy and started on our hair sheep flock, after years of not eating them someone ask me if they were good eating and i had to admit i didn't eat them so next time i cooked lamb chops i tried it, WOW, they were good eating, but would never eat a wool sheep again, only hair sheep. ours were katahdin's, also self polled, and also better on pasture, you didn't feed them except in the winter (unless you wanted to keep them tame and to come to you when you called)

Huh, interesting. So I assume your other sheep were dual purpose or meat sheep? Just that wool sheep don’t taste good? Katahdins look like a cool breed. Although how do you get the wool if it’s all shed off?

I have been thinking of trying some sheep. I like the looks and temperament of Shetlands

Morning Sharron!

That's interesting about the sheep. Guess it's about the same way differences are in the taste of beef.

I must be the only person around here that's never eaten lamb or sheep!

Must be! And meat goats vs dairy goat. Meat chicken i think tastes the same or worse than any other chicken so not much difference there probably.

agree sour, mint jelly? must have been hard times to come up with mint jelly:confused:
sorry sour, hit the wrong key

I like mint but dont think I’d like jelly

we started when we were young, we didn't think we had enough pasture to raise a beef and we wanted meat so we bought some registered cheviots.
we ended up selling them all to the same person for 20.00 each, since some of them were two and three years old, we sold them as aged sheep, even the one lamb that was a day old :D there was 21 of them, when husband decided he no longer was up to cleaning out the barn, we sold the hair sheep (they too were registered) we never butchered a ewe lamb, always the ram lambs, ewes we either keep or sold for breeders
they were nice sheep, and pretty since we had colored, the one husband brought home from caroline was a white but threw all colors but black, then we another ram (caroline bought him for us if we would go out and pick up a ram for her)so we got a solid black ram and since we were there we bought a black ewe too . so we had spotteds, reds and blacks and once we had a solid white one, unusual for us

They sound like an awesome breed!!

Thanks for explaining the difference! I never knew that wool sheep were less appealing in terms of flavor, I just never met a lamb chop I didnt like!

Must either like it or hate it.

This is the only Lamb Chop I'm familiar with...

Lol Gator used to love the Lambchop dog toys they sell everywhere. Little stuffed Lambchop with squeakers in the hands and body but he just loved to carry it around. It was soft and fleecy.

That is one lamb I would NOT want to eat! I bet it would be bony and taste like a human!

Because, like DD2, you have never had it so you know you won't like it? She's like that with most everything she has never had.

I wouldn't make that claim. I like both. DW likes beef, can take or leave lamb, would prefer to leave it.

You and I are in the same boat!
The only reason I can think of for mint jelly is to overpower the flavor of something you don't like.

Someone who didn't want the scorn of the god fearing motel owner?

Makes for a very expensive drunken tryst!

Start the stove first, then you can warm up enough to figure out how to make the coffee.

Um, you and @KDOGG331 !

LOL probably! Sounds about right. I too am like that. Don’t like seafood either and I’ve never tried most of it even living in New England. :hide did try lobster once and it was chewy and really weird texture. And I like some fish but not all. Better if it’s fried. I would like to be more adventurous though so I think I’m going to start trying new stuff. I guess the worst that could happen is I actually DON’T like it and then I know for next time and never have to eat it again. BUT. I could also end up loving it and wondering why I missed out all these years. Right? I have also never had duck or most game meat and a lot of fruits and vegetables too besides all the basic, common ones. Any suggestions on foods I should try first? :lau

OH! And also somewhat related but not really but two questions for you: I tried to eat green beans (like whole ones from the store) a couple times and they’re always gross but yet I like canned green beans. Are homegrown ones better or more flavorful? I sure hope so considering I bought a whole seed packet of them. An heirloom kind. Also, speaking of green beans, trying to set up the garden fairly soon, and was wondering exactly how you made your cattle panel arch for the garden and what plants you said you put on the inside of it versus the outside?

@bruceha2000 have you heard from @Blooie? I haven't seen her around, just wondering how she's doing.

Wondering too.

I didn't say I wouldn't like it...I've just never had it. I might like it if I tried it and would be willing to try it, just never have.

P.S. And count me out on the mint jelly too...as far as I'm concerned mint anything is awful!

I like some mint stuff, mostly mint chocolate ice cream, mint thins, thin mints, etc.

BTW our Arby's is great. Never a problem and I love that the beef always takes the same. Not like regular restaurants where change of chef produces varied results.

True about new chefs.

Ooops. Did have one mishap - last week we went to Arby's and my brother said - Oh they gave him 4 orders of potato cakes, instead of 2. I said "why didn't you tell them?"
It's not a money thing - we should have had 2,- we had 2 extra and my brother ate both of the extras. In other words he had 6 potato cakes instead of 2.:barnie

When ever I get the potato cakes I always bury them in napkins - and show my brother how very greasy they are. With his many health problems he should never eat them. Curly fries are just as greasy and his doctor told him onion rings are just as bad for him to eat.

PS the worker at Arby's was a new one - so ...Have been going to Arby's long before my son was born. We also go to two other locations when we are out their way.

I would not call that a mishap and would also eat the extras :hide :lau they likely would have to throw them anyway since they already handed them out. Stupid policy but most have that policy and would likely prefer you just eat them. I personally just get really happy when they give me extras lol

To be clear, my post in that regard was to KDogg. She said she would refuse to even try it. Your relationship to her in this case is only that neither of you have ever had it.

Haven't seen hide nor hair of @Blooie on any thread we both follow :(. Hope all is OK, I don't recall if there is planned travel at the moment or not.

Yeah, true. I might need to try it now though.

And I do not remember either but wasn’t there something coming up soon?

Morning Sharron, not sunny here, we have a blanket over us today.
Tried walking yesterday, so I'm feeling it today...it's why I'm waking up so late. :(
How is your tooth doing today?

Careful Sean! Don’t need you injuring yourself again!!

I too am a bit sore, worked out the other day lol

NO Sharon, it's a lot of fun - my mind just reads things quite literally. No offense intended- I will be glad to remove prior post, since I meant to be funny. And failed once again. Think I will stick to the weather reports.

There are a lot of kinds of green beans and they don't all taste the same. I can't tell you if you will like one or the other. DD1 won't touch a green bean in any form. DD2 will only eat them raw. DW much prefers them cooked. I can eat them either way. I find most canned vegetables to be pretty yucky. Totally different texture and taste to either fresh or frozen.

My cattle panel arbor for the beans and cucumbers is actually made with 4' tall 2x4 welded wire fencing. I pounded in 7' metal T-posts, 4' apart in 2 rows also 4' apart, 3 posts per row. The posts stick up 5'. Then cut the wire fencing to 16' (same length as a cattle panel) and arched it between the T-posts to make an 8' tunnel. I wired the fencing to the T-posts most of the way up. The top of the arch is about 7'. I didn't have any cattle panels at the time and no way to get them home from the store but I did have some left over welded wire fence. Cattle panels are a lot more self supporting but also a lot harder to arch without a second person to help.

Huh, sounds like I will just have to try them and decide for myself then!! And that’s true! I don’t like to eat most canned vegetables and definitely not plain/raw but I do like French cut canned green beans for green bean casserole!

And thanks!! That helps a lot!! We are thinking of possibly renting a trailer to take them home in and I have my dad and brothers to help me. So I think using the cattle panels shouldn’t be too difficult so I may try that but idk yet. We need some for some other stuff anyway. What did you plant under it? Did you say you put tomatoes on it at one point too? Or no?

would like to see what that looks like.

X2. I think a picture would help me visualize it better.
