12°F here this morning but it made it to the upper 30s in the afternoon. Should be mid 40's tomorrow and Thursday. Rain Thursday night through Friday.
What, no pictures?
I should have come down and taken them through the door though! Didn’t really think of it. I didn’t want to open a door and scare them but I forgot one of the doors and window down here doesn’t have a screen so I probably could have gotten a picture. Whoops
we had a ton hanging around the yard, way more than today, and they would sometimes even fly up on the new chicken coop when we were building it, and they stuck around for maybe like a week or two. Well anyway, it took me about a week to befriend them but I finally did.
they never like ate out of my hands or anything but I would toss BOSS to them and they would come pretty close to eat it and didn’t seem scared. I am hoping to be able to do that again or at least attract them to the yard because I like watching them. I doubt these are the same turkeys though given that was 2 years ago but maybe. That group had I believe 2 or 3 toms, one or two big dominant ones and a couple younger ones. And a ton of females. They were awesome. Haven’t seen many since but now that they are back I am hoping to keep them here. I know that it is probably bad to feed wild animals too much because then they won’t forage for themselves and/or won’t be scared of people so idk that I’ll do the befriending again but I do like watching them.
I like watching the song birds too. Of course, the chipmunks and squirrels usually steal a lot of the food but I like watching them too.
but I did see a hen with babies just down the road one time a couple years ago so I know that they do have them and raise them nearby but it would be so cool if they felt safe enough here to bring their babies here!! Maybe this year is the year with Gator gone!

to be fair, he did look pretty impressive
Happens to me too, stupid cameras.(focused on the screen instead of the birds)

We see wild turkeys as we drive up north and my sister has some that pass through occasionally. The farmers like having them around because they eat the grass grubs.
DH and my Dad have gone up to set up the chicken coop and run. We've bought a new run but are using our old, big coop which they took up today on the trailer. Our chickens didn't seem too worried at their coop disappearing and all bunked down on the run floor for the night, ignoring the roost we had put in there for them. I thought they'd be reluctant to go back in the run because we covered the now open end with a tarpaulin, but they weren't at all worried by the big, blue thing where their coop used to be. They had a wonderful time free ranging yesterday as we detatched the coop so I'll let them out again soon. We'll probably transport them up north tomorrow and my sister can keep an eye on them.
Thought I'd post some photos I took today of our babies. The slightly younger cockatiel chick now looks as big as it's sibling and seems to be feathering up faster. The older one still has thick down on its back whereas the younger ones is sparcer and has pin feathers just starting to come through. The younger has more chest pin feathers too. They love having a snuggle in a warm hand.
