The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey, Debby.....we should see if we could find a waving tumbleweed! Did you get a chance to see Big Boy as it chugged through from Cheyenne to Ogden, Utah? It stopped in Rawlins, and if I remember right the tracks go through Sinclair. I would love to have been able to see it in person.....the photos and videos have been nothing short of spectacular!

Nothing planned for today, except catching up on stuff I haven’t been doing. It’s time for my annual lung cancer screening CAT scan, but the hospital’s schedule isn’t jiving with mine. So :tongue

I would dearly love to see the Big Boy run! There were still steamers running in mine country when I was a tyke, the sound and smell cant be described. Takes me way back.

The last time I saw one was in Dallas at Reunion station. I don't know if it was the Big Boy but it was a huge 2- 8 - 2 engine. I stood on the platform where the engine would stop, actually my dad told me to go stand in the exact spot, exciting, the rumbling, the shaking of the platform and when it stopped, it blew steam out, engulfing me...I thought that was the coolest thing since sliced bread. I was only 6 years old.

That's a cool memory! Diesel locomotives are okay, but nothing quite like the chugging choo choo sound the steamers make!

I am on two Facebook groups, Wyoming Through the Lens and Yep, I’m From Wyoming. The photos and videos that have been posted of Big Boy 4014 and Living Legend #844 have been nothing short of incredible!

Debby, you’ll have another chance to see both of these behemoth steam engines as the train makes its return trip after the Golden Spike Anniversary celebrations in Ogden, Utah. They are scheduled to be in Rawlins May 16th around 12:45pm and it doesn’t look like they are scheduled to leave Rawlins until around 8 the next morning. If you can possibly break away, you won’t regret seeing it and getting a few historical photos. I saw it several times when it was in the park in Cheyenne, before the restoration. Unreal!! I wish I could steal some of the photos and videos from those two Facebook groups, but we aren’t permitted to do that since they are private groups, but I’ll see if there are any available anywhere else.
