DMC, what a cruddy thing to wake up to in the morning. I’m sorry!
Bruce, I did train her but you’re right, she’s an absolute natural. I can’t wait until I call her to come over and surprise her with the new chicks! I’ll have to get her some new coop boots like the ones Ken just got me....Fiona chewed ours up when she was a little puppy and was still doing annoying stuff like that.
Debby, I think access to good medical care is the biggest drawback to living in such rural areas. We have a pretty good primary care doctor close by in a Lovell, but 90% of the time we end up either at Billings Clinic or St. Vincent’s for any kind of specialized care. When you’re sick or hurting that 90 mile drive to Billings just drags. Of course, the ambulance ride up there when I had my heart attack a couple of years ago was rather pleasant. Lots of morphine in me and I had my iPad. Man, I only vaguely remember changing my password to BYC, but I darn sure did!
Bob, travel safely! Know you’re in our prayers!
Sean, you just plain scare the peewaddin’ outta me! But you’re a big boy and don’t need me telling you to take things a bit easy - that horse is dead and I put away the whip. Kinda. Sorta.
I think we’re going to have a tough time putting together any birthday party for Kendra and Jenny this weekend. Kendra will be 8 years old tomorrow, (gasp) and then Jenny will be 46 on the 2nd. But everybody’s working this weekend <sigh> so timing will be an issue. Tam worked her overnight last night, and she sleeps for a bit in the morning and then sleeps again from about 1 until 4, resting up for tonight’s shift. Kenny works from 4 am until 2, and Jenny works her second job at the hospital from 4 until 8. So I’m not sure if we’ll even get to celebrate at all. Maybe we’ll just take her cake and presents over there and drop them off.
Jenny’s second job sure changed her mind about me teaching Katie to cath Kendra! Kenny can do it, but he shakes like a leaf and absolutely hates doing it. Kendra picks upon that and gets all squirrelly on him. When I first taught Katie, Jenny was a bit irritated. She didn’t think Katie was old enough. I did. Consequently Jen very very rarely allowed Katie to do it at home, and Katie had to practically grovel to get Jen to agree. Now Katie just whips out a cath, Kendra parks her hiney in a chair and Katie gets it done!
People have just got to quit selling Katie short......Autism or not she has a remarkable sense of “duty” to others and needs that to help her continue to grow. I made that mistake several years ago when Agatha went broody while we were on vacation. I think some of you will remember that. Katie found a stash of eggs I’d forgotten about in the outside refrigerator. They were old....way, way old...but Katie brought them in to warm up, then put them under Aggie to hatch. She was so proud of herself. I ordered some hatching eggs and planned to sneak them out there so Katie would think “her” trick worked. I didn’t want to hurt her feelings or make her feel foolish. @bruceha2000 and @Beekissed gave me a gentle scolding, so I ended up telling Katie the truth and we put the new eggs under Agatha together. That was the last time I ever thought about sugar-coating anything for her.
I hope you all find at least a little time this weekend to enjoy Labor Day!
