The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Just made bison burgers, sweet potato slices, and sautéed kale.

The potato is cooked in microwave first (our microwave has a special potato setting, just enter the weight of the potato(es) and voila, baked potato. It’s great lol) and then sliced the short/wide way and sautéed/browned/crisped/fried/whatever it’s caled, idk, in a pan in olive oil. I cook it in the microwave first cause I’m impatient and otherwise it will take forever to cook all the way if I just do it in the pan :lau

Haven’t decided if I’m having bread with it yet or not. Probably not but idk. Maybe one slice of Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse style oatmeal bread. That stuff is tasty. We don’t have any burger buns. Either way though, definitely going to be using ketchup and mayonnaise. :lau

Finally caught up :thDon't get much forum time when you spend all day driving.

The first time we talked to them they asked us to send them pictures. That was the last we heard from them.
Probably ran for their lives once you had evidence ;)

Man, I only vaguely remember changing my password to BYC, but I darn sure did!
I remember that!

Now Katie just whips out a cath, Kendra parks her hiney in a chair and Katie gets it done!
:love

I think some of you will remember that.
Yep, I remember that too.

That was the last time I ever thought about sugar-coating anything for her.
And she's the better for it. You are a good Gramma.

We were at a place down the coast called Alkumal.
Akumal. I know that because it is where DW and I went for our honeymoon nearly 29 years ago. She mentioned yesterday that she figured out she's been married half her life (to date ;)). Oddly I had figured out I'm now the same age her dad was when I met her parents. Why we both were thinking about such things while driving to Maine in separate cars is a mystery.

We got the wood hauled into the house...my arms will feel it tomorrow. I got my outdoor work done today and I got my coop cleaned.:ya I love my camping weekends but I get nothing accomplished at home. I told hubby I wanted to stay home this weekend and chill.

But at least you got something accomplished today! I didn’t.

What a lovely post B :love Wish I was there sharing a bowl of soup with you.

You will be.....might not be as soon as either of us want, but it’ll happen. :hugs

Kelsey, I was 15 years old, just months before I met Ken, before Ma ever bought a pack of hamburger or hot dog buns! Oh, we’d stop at McDonald’s once in very rare while, but we ate a lot of burgers at home, and we always ate them on bread. I remember that when money was really tight, she’d cook the burger patties, and then slice them in half like you’d slice a block of cheese or a cake layer or a layer cake - horizontally through the middle, making two thin burgers. But between two slices of bread, with ketchup, mustard, mayo and garden fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions, we still got plenty to eat. Dad, of course, always got a full burger. Two in fact. And it was the same with hot dogs - she’d split them and fry them in the cast iron skillet. We’d put them on a slice of bread, roll it up, and chow down.

That actually sounds quite good! I know back then she probably didn’t really have a choice but I actually think I prefer it with bread now or without a bun. Hamburger buns are kind of overrated and fake tasting hahah this time I chose no bread but if I wanted to, regular bread would have worked just fine. Just trying not to eat too much of it atm. :lau

And I should have put veggies on mine. I am bad and probably had more mayonnaise and ketchup than burger :lau

But at least I had kale and sweet potato. Albeit burnt but still.

And wow you guys met young!!

Yep. I met him 3 months after my 16th birthday. Six days after I met him he gave me my diamond. We wanted to get married right away, but Dad said that we had to wait a year, and not just because I was so young. He worried because Ken was heading right back to VietNam in 2 weeks. So we wrote back and forth and kinda got to know each other a little better.

I turned 17 on the 29th of December. We were married on the 29th of February, exactly two months later. This coming February 29th we’ll celebrate our 52nd anniversary!

Wow!! That is an amazing story!! :love

I don’t think many people today would have the success or the longevity. Especially getting married so fast and so young. Clearly it was meant to be with you guys though and I do believe sometimes you just “know” when you’ve found the one. Seems it didn’t take you guys long at all to know haha That’s amazing though. :love

Congrats on the almost anniversary! Ha half anniversary?

Confession time: When he gave me my diamond, I said, “I’m not in love with you. I’m not even sure what that means. But if it’ll get me out of this town, I’ll go.” When we actually got married 11 months later, I still wasn’t sure, but my parents and siblings didn’t know that. He did. But he said later that the second day we spent together after we met, while we were at a family friend’s house, we were all having some sort of discussion....neither of us recall what it was now....and he realized that he was sitting with a girl who could carry on an intelligent and enjoyable conversation. He said I was also the first thing he’d seen with round eyes in a year. What a way to start a marriage, huh?

We met on a blind date when I was 17. First year of University for me.
