The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

My comment wasn't a dig at your comment.

I suspect when you are a pirate, your crew is all you've got. Need to take care of your own since the next day/battle it could be you.

Ohh okay. Sorry. Hard to tell online sometimes.

And that makes sense!! I suppose they’d kind of become like family in a way.

Funny thing though, for as ahead of the times as they were with some things, other things they definitely weren’t and embodied the typical image of a pirate. :lau for example, another said something about how they’d rather live a good but short life or enjoy it or something and that despite the popular belief, very few pirates actually buried their treasure because they preferred to do just that... live. And most of them spent their shares right away on booze and women :lau

That sounds much more typical pirate to me.

But then on the other hand, they all got equal shares, had a fund for their disabled friends, weren’t allowed to fight or gamble, could vote the captain off, etc.... go figure. :lau

Of course that was that particular captain’s ship but still, I imagine there’s more like it. Odd they seem to have a code of honor amongst themselves yet no honor when they’re out burning and pillaging cities and killing everyone they can and stealing everything they can.

Although oddly it also said when they raided ships and stuff, they fired a warning shot and gave them a chance to surrender first before they raised the other flag and attacked. Also said they much preferred psychological warfare, intimidation, etc. to fighting so they portrayed this super scary and intimidating, ruthless image and had all these various size cannons they would fire but not actually hit them, just to intimidate them. And also cause they wanted the ships intact as that was a big part of the treasure but still. They preferred not to fight if they didn’t have to and gave them a chance to surrender first. Pretty considerate. :lau
