The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Frowning for the Shrek swap. How often do you have to go to Wally World?? No way to park way out in the Tulee's? Seems like what he REALLY needs, and I mean REALLY, is those new "beep beep" features. I have them on my Prime and boy do I like them. It has parking sensors and rear cross traffic sensors and a rear camera that shows up on an 11" screen. I have no depth perception and though I've never hit anything in 48 years of driving it sure is nice to know that I'm not too close. Easier to pull into a space when the sensors can "see" what I can't.

I am :yesss: :wee for your new thread. WONDERFULLY 100% Blooie. To the point and with humor. I sure hope there are people who can add value. I'll have to ask my Dad if he is doing anything special in his diet. I didn't notice anything when I was out there for 2 weeks in Nov/Dec. He's definitely eating bread. He's borderline Type 2 diabetic but apparently is watching his diet for that OK. DW and I are going out mid March for a niece's wedding, I'm staying 2 weeks and will be nosy for you :D

Oh, I could have refused to look at the website, Kelsey. But never, ever did I think he was serious! I didn't think he'd do it. He just wanted me to look, right? And Fred was going to give him a lot of car salesman mumbo jumbo and by morning he would have forgotten all about it, right? Um, nope!

Oh, Bruce, how often do we go to Wally World? Well, when you figure it's the only place we really have to shop unless we go up to Billings, that would be more often that you'd think! And because of my legs, I have had my own handicapped decal for over 11 years. The spaces I was talking about are the disabled spots. I doubt some days if I could get from the vehicle to the store, especially back when I was still using my wheelchair or walker, but even now. It probably would have been cheaper to have the beep beep added to the car if it was possible, but it's too late to even find out now. I don't think they are available as after market, are they? Oh, well, they still wouldn't have helped him see over the hood. The Tacoma has all that helpful stuff. The Rav was our first vehicle with any of that stuff, and it's amazing how fast it becomes indispensable! Yes, we still have to take normal driving precautions and be responsible for what we're doing, but those beep beeps and cameras and blinkies in the mirrors for blind spot monitors are incredibly helpful too!

I'm glad you liked the new thread. Time will tell how it works out. Do check on your dad and be nosy for me. Inquiring minds......

That definitely must have been extremely shocking @Blooie !!

But I am sure you will get used to the new car! :hugs

How long did you have the other one for?

I just got a new car myself about a week and a half ago now and I love it. It has all those fancy features that my last one never had like the mirror blinker things when there’s a car and lane departure and all the beep beeps and it’s definitely very convenient! It even did the beeping one time in front too when there was a bush in front of the spot I was parking in. I was like  cause I didn’t know it had it.

You do get used to them rather rapidly!

I think the big thing for me is the back up camera. I do still try to look around and stuff first but honestly the camera usually sees better than I do anyway!

Does your RAV have the automatic tailgate? That’s another thing this one has and I love it because with my old one sometimes I couldn’t shut the trunk with arms full of groceries or whatever.

I'm glad you love your new car. Please, when you're driving, remember that the drivers behind and around you appreciate it tremendously when you use your tic-toos. That's another Katie-ism. She was about 3 or 4 when we were going somewhere and she knew we had to turn at the light. Grampa stopped the car and she squealed, "Grampa, turn on your tic-too!" WHAT? "Your tic-too...that thing right there that makes the lights blink." By golly she was right - if you turn on your turn signal it does say, "Tic-too, tic-too." So they've been tic-toos ever since. The backup cameras are great until you have to get out in and clean them off from snow, mud and salt spray. Then not so much!

I guess we got Shrek about 4 years ago or so. Big, green behemoth! Full sized crew cab...comfort plus, reliable...and gone. <Sigh> We haven't had the Rav since last March. Fiona outgrew it, and they changed Kendra's wheelchair so it didn't fit in there anymore. Can't have a vehicle that Fee or the chair didn't work in so we got the Sienna. Love love love that Sienna. Believe me, the "shame" in driving a mini-van is just the shame that people don't realize how versatile and comfortable they are! We hauled suitcases, 7 cases of water, Jenny, Katie, Kendra, Tam, Evan, me and Ken behind the driver's seat over the top of the mountains to his Grand Lodge last August..and back with a few extras that folks were giving us as we left!

My brother has a Tesla - he loves it. I do NOT! it has all manner of sounds and lights that show up - mainly he doesn't have a clue what they mean. But, it does have the special feature Elon added - it farts. I kid you not- in different styles. Doesn't THAT make you want to run out and buy one? Me neither.

:lau love that story!!! :love

I always use my tic-toos! :D

Or at least I try to. Occasionally I forget, mostly when I’m turning into our neighborhood or otherwise close to home, but usually I do. :D

And I never thought to wipe the camera off

It does get annoying when rain drops are all over it!!

Oh wow you didn’t have it long then! That’s too bad. Seems really nice. :(

And oh yeah.. whoops.. I think I do remember you saying that now. forgot about that.

Honestly though mini vans are amazing now!! My moms family rented one when they were here for the wedding and my cousins were saying how amazing it was and how they wanted one. :lau

Somebody hold me down!!! Ken and I were just talking about whether or not the doctor would let me go back to South Dakota this summer, like that dude has any say in THAT decision. Anyway, as conversations tend to do, one thought led to another. Ken said we’d take mini-Shrek and I told him that would be fine as long as there was room for the extra coolers. Then it hit me......there is only one reason we take two extra coolers when we go back, and that reason is gone!!

NO MORE PIG CHEEKS! No more piles of those chewy little pork morsels fried golden brown, with heaping mounds of mashed taters and milk gravy and cream style corn. How many times have I said, right here, that if Heaven didnt have pig cheeks I wasn’t going! Suddenly there won’t be any here, either! I am sunk! Oh woe is me! What will they take from me next, Chislic??
