The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I'm probably the only person who doesn't know what a keto diet is. Would someone please enlighten me?. I'm guessing it doesn't allow ice cream, cake, cookies, candy, - maybe not potato chips, cheetos either.

BTW if I lost ten pounds it would be very noticeable. I gained 7 when my son came at Xmas - which meant I got to have steak or ribs for a change. Plus he insisted on going out for lunch AND supper. Either one was enough to fill me up. But I added 2-3 lbs. more just being lazy at home.(we didn't get snow for me to shovel)

Used to really like canned tuna but, find I can't tolerate it anymore. During my pregnancy I craved tuna with coconut flakes - :sick. Must have been the hormones causing it.

I generally eat one meal a day - the protein part. If I'm going to have peas, corn, potatoes that's what I would consider as some "snack" later during the day. I really can't eat much at one time. I'm not a veggie /salad eater at all.

With ice cream I believe the difference is it rapidly melts into liquid and takes a lot less room in the stomach. At least that is my take off on having it.
Rarely I remember to have canned pears - usually sliced so I just eat a couple pieces. Sometimes I have banana - the smallest ones I can find in the store. They have potassium I think which is supposed to be good :idunno.

Funny my mother was even smaller and skinnier than me. But she hated meat, hamburgers etc. She loved veggies. Did love salmon (keep it away from me). She also loved cookies, cakes, candy, ice cream - hmm wonder if we had an instant connection.

PS I know I'm probably NOT 5 ft.tall but my mother always claimed she was, and she was shorter than me. At the doctor they always ask how tall I am and none of the nurses ever want to bother and find out for real. The child measuring thingy is right there and they could certainly have me stand against it.

If I survive( while covid etc. going on ) I will be 73 in July.

From what I gather it's high fat and low carb...Chrissy and Sharron know better than I do.

yes, theres a lot of things you can eat, and if you like meats, you can eat til you're full, keto has its desserts that are low carb if you want dessert you just can't have sugar, flours or high carb veggies, oh-- no rice either, i use turnips to make "french fries" as potatoes are a no no
the hardest thing for me is wanting to eat out and finding something thats keto that i can eat, once in a while i like someone else to cook and clean up
look on the net, dr.ken berry is great one to watch on you tube

None of this is as much fun as when I walked 10 miles round trip to the bank to get my debit card activated( and got serious blisters on toes), so I could pretend I had spending money. Okay done venting.
Can't you go out for a walk and get a little fresh air? Doesn't have to be 10 miles.

Hi DD. Hope you get to Arby's for a sandwich. They're advertising 5 classic roast beef sandwiches for $10 here.
Do they expect you to bring 4 friends, eat 5 yourself or eat one and take 4 home to reheat later?

Happy Birthday!
Who's birthday?

@sharron I'm a firm believer in Keto. I lost 238 pounds in three years on a keto diet. Dr. said it saved my life. :)
Very impressive, sorry you lost your sister but glad you made the hard change.

Well I have 5 people so it would work for us. However, we're not eating out so...

We have seen a hint of spring a couple of times, no hint of summer.

And have no job since the course isn't opening until .... well no one knows.

Stay safe, find a mask somewhere for when you need to be near people. Though they do have their downsides.
  • If you wear glasses they fog up and you can't see.
  • If they fit well you get to breathe your own exhaust, I get a CO2 headache when I go grocery shopping.
I do wear glasses and I’m a little claustrophobic.
I hear people talking it will peak here in the next 2 weeks. I pray they are wrong and it doesn’t.
I am working from home still. There is quite a bit of work to do though
I bet that is different for you.
Good news on the blood sugar!

My left knee is doing better today too
hi dd. wish you were closer, we could maybe to shopping together once in awhile, altho lately, not much shopping here either, i did go out today, went to the dr early, then up the mountain to a liquor store and bought a bottle of vodka(going to make vanilla extract), no i don't drink but i do use vanilla extract alot and after we ate leftovers we went to a lumber yard to buy panels to redo my greenhouse
anyway, feel better :hugs
Is that why real vanilla is so expensive? I just ordered an 8 oz bottle from Sam’s club. It was $20

Most of the worlds vanilla is grown in madagascar. A combination of a bad storm and climate issues caused a shortage. We are starting to see better prices. The bottle I buy from costco was down to $29.00 form $39.00 a year ago.

Real vanilla is so good!
