The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I had a restless night too as we kept getting squalls of rain and wind coming through. Then our deaf cat decided to start meowing, wondering where everyone had gone.

There's a lady down at the bottom of the South Island who has developed her own chicken breed that lays all winter long. She's spent 10 years developing her breed. She's got 9 year old hens who have only just given up laying every day (other than going broody in summer). She had one little mixed breed hen who was an amazing egg layer and it all stems from that one hen. So I've bought 6 hatching eggs off her. I've had my eye on them for awhile.

Mail is getting through quickly at the moment (so it's a great time to get some) and hatching eggs have been deemed an essential item. She's taken great pains to breed so that the roosters are not aggressive too, otherwise I wouldn't even consider them.

I didn't realise how old our chickens are until I looked back. Our youngest are 4 years old and none of our chickens laid well this past summer (not that any of our breeds are great egg layers anyway). I'd love some winter eggs because supermarket eggs are gross. Wrinkly yolks and watery whites.

I should hatch out some chicks too!

Most of the worlds vanilla is grown in madagascar. A combination of a bad storm and climate issues caused a shortage. We are starting to see better prices. The bottle I buy from costco was down to $29.00 form $39.00 a year ago.

Real vanilla is so good!
How big of a bottle?
Just got home, clear and cold.

Howdy Sue, Bob, IM, Chrissy, Cap!
Beautiful!
@DigMyChicks I've probably missed you by now, but was wondering how your first day back to work went?
It was good, I’m at daycare now and the kids are sleeping. I actually missed the little Petri dishes! We have several families in the medical field here that are not coming which eases the mind a little. There is a temp check station set up outside the door and all temps are taken and recorded. So far no one
has been sent home.
That would not happen in this century!!
