The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I'll be sharing loads of photos, don't you worry.

Our duck eggs are at least 10 days away from starting to hatch still. The chicken eggs will have to go in with them but it won't be the first time I've had eggs at different stages in the same incubator and I always hatch eggs in a tray to contain any mess. The duck eggs I'll be putting in 3 separate trays as I want to know which babies came from the 3 different nests she gave me eggs out of.

I'm going to be a busy lady!

I've seen them mentioned a few times on BYC. They are pretty birds.
The two cockerels in my avatar are Pita Pinta chickens

Is that why real vanilla is so expensive? I just ordered an 8 oz bottle from Sam’s club. It was $20
I've never made it, but really should. DD1 has a friend whose mother is a baker in Illinois. We went to their house once several years ago (maybe many years ago now!) and she was starting a new bottle of vanilla extract. Said you don't even need to use good vodka, the cheap stuff is fine. I don't remember how many beans she put in the fifth bottle but obviously that is how much extract she made.

I hear people talking it will peak here in the next 2 weeks. I pray they are wrong and it doesn’t.
I don't understand. Don't we want it to peak as soon as possible so we can start down the back side and eventually get back to regular business?

You can stay up a lot later than me! I'm usually conked out by 9pm.
Not surprising if you are getting up at 1:30 AM!

I don't think I've missed any but it's time consuming...
Which is why I'll never have a Greeter badge. I have a hard enough time just keeping up with the threads I follow here and on BYH.

Going to try Cap, but got too many things to do...I'll sleep tonight...like a normal person!
Does that mean your night job is on hiatus now?

So I've bought 6 hatching eggs off her. I've had my eye on them for awhile.
Oh, we definitely need to hear about how well these birds lay through the winter. Give us a ring in a year to remind us they are entering their first winter of lay.

That would not happen in this century!!
Well, not in THIS country.

And if you get a mean rooster, when someone asks what breed it is you can say it is a PITA Pinta ;)

Pretty birds! Are they yours?
The were from the original eggs I hatched, second generation. That was 7 years ago. I can't have roosters here so I either ate them or sent them off to a new home.

This is their parents

Wow they're gorgeous! Colors are nice but I really like black and white chickens. Good luck if you're bidding!

It is kirkland vanilla extract and is 16 ounces.

It might be out of stock now though!
I’ll be good for awhile with this bottle. Was that at Costco? I buy the McCormick brand at Sam’s.

I should have said I don’t want it to get here at all.

With this virus, you don't want a big peak. You want to " flatten the curve" so they don't have to deal with a big overflow all at once.

My 'night job' is tied to this virus...the company I'm contracting for has furlough until May 1st now! So if they don't work, neither do I.
