I have an external pip!
But we'll still have to wait for up to 48 hours for it to actually hatch though.
Another one had stopped overnight before it had pipped internally so we are down to 5 hopefuls. This seems to be the time that Muscovy ducklings often give up.
One egg has a safety hole because it had been internally pipped for 24 hours and it wasn't talking back to me anymore. It's still alive but hasn't externally pipped yet, but at least it has oxygen.
Muscovy must be much quieter than mallard breeds. I can't hear them unless I put the egg up to my ear. I found someone else hatching wild mallard babies. The duck was taken by a fox after sitting on her eggs for a week so this girl took over incubating them. They are at the same stage as our ducklings so it's nice we can support each other. Sounds like her babies are talkers.
