The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Seems she did mention planning to take most of the week. I feel for her pulling that trailer.

@sunflour I just read your "reintegrating" article. I have a friend trying to do the same, after her (now gone) dog got ahold of one of her young pullets and darn-near killed her. I will pass along the info. Thank you for writing it!

Did not notice your article Sunflour - good stuff. Its now top of my list of "integration" links that i have on my clipboard.

Thanks. I learned a lot with that experience. Penny is still a happy member of the flock, but still at the bottom of the pecking order and still gets a lot of TLC from us. And Lillie is still a little bully at times, but Penny can deal with it without any stress.

My biggest mistake was a zero tolerance early on of any potential challenge to her - I think she would still be living in the dog crate without DH making me back off and let them just work it out the last few days.

I had so wanted to add to the flock this year, but with the demands of my job change and crazy hours it was not feasible.
But next year I will definitely be adding some newbies:)

Good morning all! A "Kendra Day" sounds good to me! You guys are all so sweet to think of her like part of the family! Thanks, and I'll happily pass on the hugs!

Still nothing in the incubator. Day 20. I hate this waiting stuff!! Waiting for eggs to hatch, waiting for Kendra's surgery, waiting for Debby to let us know she made it..waiting, waiting, waiting!! I ain't a good waiterer. <sigh>

Sounds like my friend is babying her injured bird too much now. We thought the bird was dead, literally, there was sooo much blood! Her husband assumed it was dead, and just left it in the yard. Then, hours later, they saw the poor thing walking around! So my friend took it inside, sent me a pic, and I ran over to look at her. Neck was severely scalped, down to the muscles, but surprisingly, she was eating and drinking. So she kept her inside until it all healed. Now its time to let the girls sort things out!

Oh phooey, Blooie! I'm betting you get several pips today!

Okay, break out the party hats, cakes, noisemakers and green potato salad - we're CELEBRATING!! Kendra graduated from preschool today! She was attending the VIP Preschool at the Children's Resource Center in Lovell. But next school year she'll be attending the regular preschool program at Rocky Mountain Elementary School, and we are blessed that the wonderful woman who has been Kendra's assistant through both of her years at VIP will be her assistant as she goes into her new school. All of the kids except 2 will attend Lovell Elementary - Kendra and one other little girl. At graduation they had "Caps and Gowns", got diplomas, each family got a big (and I mean BIG) photo album of their special times at school, and a T-shirt from the new school they'll be attending. So there were 8 blue Bulldog shirts and 2 cream colored Rocky Grizzlies shirts rolled up in a neat package behind them. I had to giggle at Katie - she leaned over to me and whispered, "So, next year Kendra will just go to school with 'ordinary' kids?" Yep, with just ordinary kids! "I don't know what this thing is, but it seemed to be important to the grownups!" "Hmmm, might make a dandy bullhorn!" "See, I can be serious when the occasion calls for it!" "But I'd rather not..." Katie, Kenny, Jenny, and Kendra with her pink frosted cuppycake. She tasted it, decided she didn't like it, and........ .....stuffed it, frosting side down, into the first hand she saw - Grampa's!
Yay for Kendra!! My youngest graduates from high school next weekend. I'm not ready for that...

DMC, It is difficult.
Get a plan and then get busy keeping yourself occupied.
I went on a diet and started exercising. painted the house, sodded the front yard....and... I do not know what happens next, but it got me through the empty nest.
Congratulations to your youngest!

Thanks 3 good eggs! He'll only be about 70 miles from us but it's the whole not knowing he's safe in his bed at night. It's a good thing I have a garden and a flower garden and chickens....

Congratulate him for me, too!

I'm babysitting the incubator tonight. Started out with 2 pips, now up to 4. But none of them are making any progress, so it's just waiting......and waiting.....
