The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey, Dig my chicks! :frow

I have a little bit of advice for you for when your son moves into a dorm.
Do not bother buying two sets of sheets, cleaning supplies or anything that requires 'mom' skills. They will not be used.
We moved it back home -all of it unopened.
In a dorm room of three people, what they really needed was space.

And things that he really felt he needed from home- he never used, he was too busy. I told him that before we moved it up there, but he did not listen to me.
Next year he has already agreed that he can live with less.
Less stuff=more space.

Hi 3goodeggs! He will not be in a dorm. Him and his friend will be rooming together in an apartment which we have already found. They've paid their first months rent already even though they won't be moving in until mid August. Nice apartments go fast so we got right on it and found a decent one. Both him and his room mate are reasonably neat so hoping they stay that way. If he doesn't change his sheets I will, yuck!

If you are only an hour away, that is doable, but they also will be growing up quite a bit, I think learning their 'gross tolerance level' might be a good thing.

The first year -as I remember- had a lot of adjustments, It isn't high school and they have to find their stride.
We can give them the best advice that ever parted our lips, but until they experience it themselves... It will fall on deaf ears.
Now he asks for advice. hummm. I suddenly became a smart woman.

When we went apartment looking, the first one we saw was absolutely horrid...those boys were getting ready to move out and looked like they didn't clean the whole 2 years they were there. The smell hit us before we even got in the door. The landlord showed us another apartment in the same building that housed 3 boys and it was neat as a pin. I'm so glad the boys chose what they did as it has a manager that is on site on a regular basis and party's aren't allowed and there's also family's that live there. My son did ask me today what I thought they would need and I got out my list I'd started. I told him he could have anything I don't use that we've been saving for this time in his life.

@Blooie Hope the weather was good for y'all and the barbecue went well ( or maybe it's for dinner?)

I had a short day at work - only 8 hours

So we're gonna grill some hot dogs - we never do the hot dog thing, but looking forward to the not so healthy supper.

I think we are all still recalibrating.
After a year on the top bunk in the tiny dorm, he is really enjoying his own bed again. and having his own bathroom.
After a week trying to sleep in hotels, my husband and I are still trying to catch up as well.

The entire time I kept thinking of you sleeping on an air mattress, driving the same distance we drove, and you still hit the ground running.
I am drinking coffee all day and trying desperately to force myself to get back into my routine, but it does not appear to be happening.
This is the first real vacation we have ever had. My husband is a sweet man but not adventurous and happy in his rut.
I might have missed my window for travel. I am not as adaptable as I used to be.
You are

worthy! One day I hope to be adventurous.

How are you doing? Do you get days off?
Have you unpacked the boxes?
Can you find the stuff you are looking for?

Eggsy, don't compare our challenges...we all have them, they just take different forms is all. I have to agree with Chris on the travel thing...get out there a bit and see for yourself what it's like. Take just a short one to begin with and who knows, once your DH hears about your adventure, he just might agree to join you!

As for the questions at the end of your post...
Days off? Not yet but we have a 3rd person starting soon so that will help. If not a full day off, maybe a part of one anyway.
Unpacked? Nope! There is NO storage of any sort in the house. No shelves, about 4 little cabinets in the kitchen (except for the ones so high DH can't even reach). 2 tiny closets. There's no place to put anything away. We haven't had the time or energy anyway. So for the time being, we have a maze of boxes to walk through. Fixing up the place is going to be our off-season project!
Can I find what I look for? Mostly no, lol. But we're doing ok anyway.

Yay, grilled hot dogs! My favorite cookout food (had 1 today actually). Enjoy your dinner! How nice you got off "early"!
